Few questions here, I hope I can get some useful information from you guys before I head to the TM Point.

My house is currently having TM Homeline, monthly rental RM26 and 1MB Streamyx package, monthly RM88. Both of them are under my father's name and my father passed away in year 2001. Currently I'm taking Northumbria University in KDU College, it's 2nd year of the study right now in bachelor course.

Since my father has passed away, and monthly coming bill are under his name, what should I do in order to get this promotion package?

1) I heard that I only need to bring death certificate of my father to the counter of TM Point, immediately can transfer the Streamyx holder name to my name, is it true?

2) Do I need to transfer both TM Homeline and Streamyx name to my name?

3) Upon the process, will they terminate my internet service? Or they will just upgrade silently until we notice in one day?

4) Any charges will be taken in transferring name and other stuff?

5) After we get the netbook, we can just do anything to the netbook as we like, for the example "throw away"?

I hope I can get faster response at here, thanks.

1) Thanks, I hope the response I will get in this coming Monday is the same with yours.

2) It should work but will they terminate my service while transferring name?

3) They will not terminate my service and upgrade silently? I don't get your proper answer, sorry.

4) Will ask when I am there, thanks again.

5) Okay.

I used to upgrade from my 512kb package to 1MB package through internet application, it took about 2 weeks to complete without terminating my service. I just hope this time they won't terminate my service when upgrading...

Best of luck, its best to consult the TM fellas to confirm it. Logically wut the point billing a bill to a deceased person. Sorry about ur father. icon_rolleyes.gif

It's really funny about my TM stuff in my family. My father passed away in June 2001, and I subscribe Streamyx in around year 2003 and we fake the signature of my father. End up we got the internet service. rclxms.gif

Until now there's a good offer from TM, that's why I am looking for upgrading but then the ownership stuff and terminating issue which makes me worry a lot. One day without internet I will just die in my own room.

this is one of the weakness of TM...they allow deceased to register...

share with u one experience...a fren of mine rent out his house to students, then the students used my fren's father (who is dead 3 years ago) name to register for telephone line....then their telephone bill they dun wan to pay when they leave...and the amount is damn huge...

so, now wondering who will Telekom go chase after...LOL...the owner sudah mati 3 tahun yg lepas... smile.gif

Just submitted my application yesterday, applying new TM Homeline and Streamyx under my name.

7-4-2010 - Submit application form with student card and my IC.
8-4-2010 - TM contractor came to my house and setup a new telephone wiring (old wiring still running under my father name and Streamyx). After installation, call from TM Point about confirmation. I asked for my application status, the girl told me that I still have to wait for 1 week. She also say that DEPENDS ON YOUR AREA STATUS, means worker work slowly or faster, depends on their service. So if you know your area TM station number, just call to them. As I know mine, so no worry for me, I can anytime call or go to the station myself.

After your Streamyx installation is successful, then your netbook will be processed. If they have problem to install your Stramyx, then your netbook will not be in process. The success of Streamyx installation is really important here.

Great news!

Just dial 100 to confirm my order status.

The girl in the phone told me that this 10th April Saturday the Streamyx contractor will give me a call and make an appointment to come to my house to install Streamyx! Hope they will call me within this Saturday else I will automatically call to my area TM station 04-8288888.

Hopefully everything will be okay. The telephone line ready for this 4MB is direct line type and should not have frequent disconnection, less data loss and so forth. Will update here once there's any new thing coming out.

What does that mean? You have a different kind of cable? Mind to elaborate more? Coz I'm the one who requested for 4Mbps and now got stucked since my line isn't fit enough to accept such a speed.

Okay, let me explain here. I used this method that recommended by the manager of the TM contractor of my area since year 2003.

According to him, broadband are high speed and required better wiring and setup in order to get less data loss and less frequent disconnection. So for my house wiring setting, they bring in the "fat" wire that can last many years into my room, and then convert the wire into the normal telephone line to plug into my modem. Which means the bandwidth can come in through to my modem very smooth with confident with less data loss and the power are stronger as well. After I did that recommendation, my house internet connection never disconnect unless they refresh the port every week or their station is down. One thing is my area no more refreshing port because I remember before my girlfriend went to Australia, I hold the IP 60.49.xx.xx since January until now, it has been three months and it still NEVER change, which means my connection is never disconnect or interrupted for 3 months. By holding this IP, I can surf every web from the whole world better than other IP address. I also can play Hong Kong game server with minimum 55ms latency to highest 70ms latency.

I recommend people who have frequent disconnection, please do the step below:
- Request for carrying in the "fat" wire into your house, it's better near to your modem, the BEST. Told by the TM contractor and the manager. Will be charge minimum RM50 for the service.
- Check the port outside your home see whether something wrong, or water get into the port, or dirty port. Anything happen to the port will cause frequent disconnection, that is because the connection is very sensitive.
- Request to check the station port and setting, refresh the port and so forth.
- For apartment and condominium owner, I can't help you with this. This is because the whole line are inside your condominium and apartment, that will need a lot of works to workout the problems.
- Recommendation above are for those landed housing residential.

That's why I always tell people, my Streamyx never fails me. It only has problem in connecting the other country, we get high latency and the website are load slower, that's the reason. I'm waiting for this 4MB package, hopefully it will work as perfectly like my current line.

Added on April 9, 2010, 4:37 amAnother tips:

- You must know you area TM station where your home connection are connected to there, it is your some kind of "ISP" station.
- Get to know where is the location and it's phone number, my area is Ayer Itam in Penang, so the number is 04-8288888. This number is the Ayer Itam Telekom phone number.
- You must understand how the internet connection going, at least some problem solving skills and do research on the problems.
- Call to the nearest station and ask for queue up information, when is your turn and when they are coming to your house.
- Don't listen to 100 service call craps like changing DNS server, refresh ipconfig and others, I never listen to them. Once I get frequent disconnection, I only ask for filing a report and ask the contractor come to my house and I will explain to them myself.

Yesterday I call to 100 dial service and ask for my Streamyx new application status, the people on the phone told me that she has checked my details, this 10th April the people from my area station will call me up for appointment and do the installation. So if you got slower, either the place where you submit your application form is slow or either your station contractor slower. Mostly are cause by the station contractor I assume. This is because the TM Point service peoples will only key in the information and contact your area station to terminate or active your service, and the queue up information list is in their hand too. So do reach to them and call them up, chase them and pay them some "duit kopi" and they will work faster.

So IF the 10th April the people is coming to my house to do the installation of Streamyx, how fast is my application?

7/4/2010 - Submit application form, applying new TM Homeline and new Streamyx account, both under my name.
8/4/2010 - Around 1PM, my area TM contractor call to my handphone and ask for installing new wiring for TM Homeline.
10/4/2010 - Streamyx installation successful, can straight using it if they activate it on the spot.

Hopefully it goes like this on this Saturday, just pray more. Total it only takes me 3 days to get my Streamyx running, is that awesome? biggrin.gif

SN Margin (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is the lowest dB manufactures specify for modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving* can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. The higher the number the better for this measurement.
> 6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
> 7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
> 11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems
> 20dB-28dB is excellent
> 29dB or above is outstanding

Line Attenuation
Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.
> 20dB and below is outstanding
> 20dB-30dB is excellent
> 30dB-40dB is very good
> 40dB-50dB is good
> 50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
> 60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

The information is very useful and important. Your modem may be can tell you what is going on with your connection and what's wrong.

As for mine, I'm using RM88 1MB package now and this is what I can see in my modem:
SNR Margin 24 23 dB
Line Attenuation 39 23 dB
Data Rate 1536 512 kbps

@lowyard
For your information, if you always have downtime and dumb internet connection, I suggest you to call professional TM contractor or Streamyx contractor, request them to do something. Ask them is it your home wiring problem and is there any "direct line" needed. If you really go for direct line, then it will cost you some money. Now my new TM Homeline that waiting for the 4MB is the direct line setting, while the old 1MB RM88 one I'm not sure because the wiring is inside the wall and I can't see how long they are.
