i should be going for the saturday instead of sunday.
lin cho liang is a fantastic world class violinist, and although i'll sound like a dumb by saying this, it worth the price of the ticket even by just listening to him playing anything on his Stradivarius violin (made from Stradivari's peak of his output quality, not just a "regular" stradivarius). |

QUOTE(faceless @ Feb 14 2011, 10:13 AM) no particular reason, it's the tradition. just like western music, why 12 semitones?my take on the pentatonic is that you don't have semitones by taking out 4 and 7, and harmonically 1 2 3 5 6 works very well with various chords. you can keep playing pentatonic notes randomly with any diatonic chords. QUOTE(faceless @ Feb 14 2011, 10:13 AM) if you tune it that way, your guzheng will become koto. i'll call that japanese pentatonic. upon googling, that tuning is called "hirajoshi" meaning "tranquil tuning". well, not trying to help anyone specifically but...
if you don't already realize, jie xian's english probably isn't strong enough to express himself. we're not seeing each other so it's very easy to misunderstood or misinterpreted. jie xian probably did not mean it, but it was indeed a very bad joke, unless jie xian is very close with faceless like father and son or super close friend for 10 years or so...which is what jie xian meant when he said "too friendly", suddenly he thought everybody became a family and can talk freely where everyone won't take it seriously. i don't see it as a serious matter. QUOTE(faceless @ Dec 14 2011, 08:45 AM) I seen LittleIce use it on his violin bow. He always rub his bow with it. How does it work? It just seem like a piece of plastic to me. rosin is made from tree resins (go and make a scratch on a mature tree and you'll see those sticky liquids flowing out), when it's processed and harden it'll become rosin solid. rub horse hairs over it, the rosin will rubbed into white dusts and the horse hair will pick up the dusts. brand new horse hair on the bow is silky smooth, it'll skid on the strings rather than gripping it, so you need the rosin. This post has been edited by little ice: Dec 14 2011, 02:28 PM |

it's been a long time since i last read this thread. being a non-chinese-instrument player i'm a little embarrassed to post something as i couldn't help with anything really, apart from the rosin thing lol. ...and that was some really heated conversations going on lately! QUOTE(faceless @ Jan 17 2012, 09:32 AM) sorry for completely missed your call. was actually busy during the CNY as it arrive at such a weird timing, feels like CNY only lasted a few days and back to work again.i'm interested to join the next gathering if you guys welcome a bolakang people like me. QUOTE(faceless @ Apr 3 2012, 09:02 AM) You had joined us twice and will always be welcome to join us again. We have so many multi instrument player here and it does not matter if you dont play chinese instrument. Furthermore our gathering was never confine to chinese instruments only. thanks! You think bowing meditation with the erhu will be weird? I want to attempt it. I need to hear you violin it for me again then I can try it with your help. With your strong theory background you certainly can convert something for me to do with the erhu, hehehehe. bowing meditation on erhu will be interesting. i've heard lots of erhu players on youtube playing classical piece. i even see horse head cello (mongolian) playing turkish march. QUOTE(faceless @ Apr 3 2012, 09:02 AM) g-yok or no g-yok is not determined by the day we gather. It is determined by the presence of muslims. So far there are no muslims among us yet. then i try bring some nice g-yok.QUOTE(faceless @ Apr 3 2012, 09:02 AM) |
