faceless,
Thanks for the info about the strings. The thinner strings are all rusted. When I play I often hit the wrong note cos I can't see the green strings as note 5. I can hear the buzz that comes from the slot near tuning peg. Btw, I already expected some imperfection for 2nd hand instrument, and for this price i can't complain much.

Ouch... yesterday my dad helped me to clean the dust on the soundboard and he used a damp cloth to wipe it. doh.gif

2 week ago I read from guang ming newspaper, there's a full page interview of Alan & his wife and the winner of the recent m'sia gz competition. They talked about competition, music school, their story and ambition.

subangman,
I have a budget of 100 for a complete set of strings, would it be cheaper if bring the strings back from hk? Could you do me the favor? biggrin.gif I want better quality strings, and I can wait for it. smile.gif

faceless,
I have solved the buzz problem. My guzheng has this small "white plastic hand" on the box (on the right side of the picture below). After I removed the "plastic hand", the buzz gone. rclxm9.gif

Then maybe is something funny like laBella's new weapon.
*

Lucky I found the root of the buzz, the screw on the 'plastic hand' is loose causing the 'plastic hand' buzzing when the strings vibrate.

It time to buy a DIY book. I remember you told me in the "Scale" thread not to rely fully on teacher. 李萌 and 王中山 are my favourites. 李萌 wrote the syllabus for the exams.
*
Yea I'm gonna buy a book. The teaching material that my teacher currently using is his own compilation of exercises and songs for beginner, which has only 20+ pages without techniques explanation.

Bella...tell us more about your progress in GZ.

So far so good. Started to play octave songs and exercises with thumb and middle finger, I practise a lot these few days. I never realized the way I use my thumb for picking was wrong until my teacher told me. The correct way is bend the 1st joint of thumb when hitting the strings, so the tone will be more solid and loud. biggrin.gif

OK...back to more important issue. Can I suggest we meet on 17th August RABU (Nuzul Quran day)? It's a public Holiday for the whole of Malaysia.

My house is open...but it will be good if someone else also can offer his/her home for a few hours as an alternative.

Everyone please give some suggestions here.

I thought Nuzul Al-Quran is for Selangor only? My place is in KL. I remember last year I don't have such public holiday. By the way, I have 1 week holiday for hari raya. If possible we can meet during hari raya.

laBella,
You should get one of these duster. They are thin enough for the guzheng with handles long enough to reach into the full width of the sound board.
user posted image You can find it at IKEA user posted image

The ikea duster not bad huh, I don't need a long ruler with wiping cloth anymore. rclxms.gif

Does anyone know of a gu zheng teacher for children that will come to the house during weekdays? Location is OUG in old klang road.
*
I know a gu zheng teacher teaching in a music center called Good Sound music & art in jalan mega mendung near OUG plaza. Not sure whether she teaches private, you may PM me for her contact number. :-)

Congratz to the winners! Wow... I'm glad that Malaysia has a lot of talented gu zheng players!!

Well, it's been 4 months I learn gu zheng. Already upgrade from beginner to grade 1. Recently I learn 'flower finger'(花指), up/down bending (上/下滑音). But I still can't get the bending note accurate everytime, maybe I'm not used to the bending strength especially the down bending (left hand press down the string first then right hand pluck).
