I am stuck with that song for one year. Double handed play is taking me too long to master. Liu Yang I had been doing this for 1 year.

What about you what song were you playing before you went to study?

ohh yea .. double handed play is very annoying sometimes
but Liu Yang River is a very good song to start off double handed play


b4 this ... i was practising:
- jing gang shan shang tai yang hong (sunshines over Jing Gang mountain)
- qin sang qu


so now continue with these 2 pieces + zhan tai feng (fighting the typhoon) & xue shan chun xiao (Snow Mountain & Spring Morning)

formed a group with my sifu and play some nice group pieces recently ..
couldnt list them out here at i cant type mandarin with office pc ...

btw .. there is a nice piece on youtube...
search on "Plant vs Zombie guzheng" .... =)
played by 2 young girls .. amazing performance !!!

so it is confirm on the 28th the saturday? Around what time? I think should be alright. Excited to be meeting everyone.. but i need to warn you all.. I'm quite the shy shy one..

Can you do 高山流水？ I am doing that on my own (without teacher guidance).

forgotten the 流水 part as it really has to be memorised
where it is the most attractive part of the song .... (IMO)

Be there about 14:00 or earlier also can. Take lunch first, we want to spent time exchanging ideas/playing.
Shy is not a problem. Meeting people for the first time is always like that but just remember that we had actually know each other more than a year already. The question is how well we know each other by just looking at each other post. Dont shy shy when you pluck/bow the strings can already. I am eager to hear you violin.
By the way, do you remember Claire. You two were active at about the same time and MIA at about the same time too. Now resurfaced again at the same time. Both MIA to further studies too.

My teacher is a confused man. He use to tell me I cant play this I cant play that. One day he tell me, "you should get a book on guzheng". I guess that means I can play anything in the book I buy. Although I did not really see any improvement in my skill when he told me that. My senior decided to drill those words in. Dont fail the mission teacher assigned to you. She is afraid I dont understand the chinese (I banana mah). Anyway, that is why I have self study syllabus on my homework or practise time.

I always like 高山流水. It is commonly used in sword fighting movies, so I try to pick it up lor. I like the double octave twin thumb pluck (十六度双劈 forgot if thumb pluck is called 劈 or maybe something else） at the opening. It had a mystical effect. If you strum it good, it can even sound like thunder. So I am still stuck at the opening trying to get the right effect. These kind of things teachers cant teach you. They can only say, "still got no ummphh". On the flowing waters part, it has a dreamy effect that can just throw your mind into a whirlpool. Well, I am not there yet but stuck at mystical thunder opening.

云压 I had on my book. The title sound catchy, I tried to play it but cant. It just dont sound right.I need to hear it first and get to know more background to the song to figure out the effects.

By the way, I remember you said you had a lot of songs. I hope you can bring your book along.

Then play basic and share ideas lor. Even play basics can share a lot of stories wan. It is not concert lah. It is you learn from me I learn form you session. Yah, we are already doing that in the thread but this is life demo lor.

i have not more than 5 guzheng books ...
and some pieces are repeated in one book and another ...

but i can imagine sharing them is interesting !

You can PM Empire he will give you address. If you want to come by LRT we can meet up first.

In that case I will bring all my guzheng books too and make it book sharing session too.

By the way pieces repeated in other books are expected. That is what make the piece a classic.
