Dear lowyat-ian.

Do you have any idea to cover or to change this type of ceiling? It look ugly...

I know plaster ceiling can solve the problem, but plaster ceiling not good for health, somemore this is a master bedroom.

Can i just remove the wood frame?

Any idea? or any experience on this?

Below is the picture:

This kind of ceiling cost more than plaster ceiling now.
Tougher, more durable & blocks heat better.

Only problem - termites.

Else it'd last u almost as long as the roof doesn't leak. tongue.gif

asbestos is surely much more dangerous when cut loose.... if it breaks better stop breathing. i made sure all asbestos was savely removed without a trace from our house (and that wasnt cheap). a good quality reenforced plaster ceiling would be the way to go other than that dont touch the asbestos. if you remove it evacuate the building and get professionals to remove the asbestos. any airborn fibres from the ceiling will be a high cancer risk. and they stick everywhere. removal of complete plates.... workers must be super carefull not to break the slightest bit of. easier way (cheaper) paint the ceiling with a acrylic based paint to seal fibres then add plaster ceiling if this can be done withut touching the ceiling (not sure... have to lower i guess) or leave it with the acrylic based paint. anything else is just way to dangerous - i would not even drill in this ceiling....

fibre plaster ceiling - any of several gypsum cements; a white powder (a form of calcium sulphate) that forms a paste when mixed with water and hardens into a solid; used in making molds and sculptures and casts for broken limbs, A mixture of lime or gypsum, sand, and water, with fiber added, that hardens to a smooth solid and is used for coating walls and ceilings is ASBESTOS FREE.

however, those 2'x2', 2x 4' UAC ceiling like the pic above is not, UAC = united asbestos ceiling rolleyes.gif
