you cannot work if you are on a tourist visa......the eta for msians is valid for 1 year, and allows a maximum stay of 3 months per entry.....

if it is part of your course, you will have to apply for one of the other categories of short term visitors visa, your college should be able to advise which category is appropriate.....

if it is just an unpaid internship/attachment, it is often best to just use the tourist eta....

Very bad idea limeuu. The fact that you are unpaid does not mean you are not "working". "Work" is defined by immigration as "any form of activity that normally attracts renumeration". Even if you are not being paid for the task(s) that you are doing, it can be still counted as "work", and if immigration gets wind of this, you will be barred from entering Australia for a while.

Some real examples I've seen come through the doors of RAILS(http://www.rails.org.au/)/legal aid:

-Attached to a law firm for a experience, not getting paid, going 8am-6pm everyday: it is work
-Distributing fliers on the street, as help for someone: work
-Helping a friend fill in for a shift at a car wash for a one-off: work

I don't know what zstan wants to do while in Australia, but if it is related to his course of studies in the medical field, I would strongly advice getting a visa that gives some kind of working rights.

Of course, unless you're the typical selfish Malaysian who wants to circumvent the system for your own interests, and mess things up for the rest of us.......
