ok i'm considering between USQ Toowoomba campus and University of Sydney.I probably will have a parent guardian accompanying me-health reasons.Which uni is better to study computer-bio related courses, and which area provides more part-time job opportunities?

Added on January 11, 2010, 3:23 pmBTW,is it more sound to buy  desktop here then ship it over when ii go or better too buy a PC there?
*
hmm havent been in this thread for a long time.

about the PC. over there the desktops are quite expensive, but if they have sales they do drop down to decent prices. as mentioned above it would be better to grab a laptop, because when you have some study sessions at friends place, or the library, its easier to bring your laptop with you. unless you really want a desktop for gaming or something like that. in melbourne me and my bro set up a clone pc for around AUD$750 just for the machine. but need to go shopping around lah. and of course clones are more susceptible to crashes and such. plus need to buy monitor and stuff. i say laptop all the way, plus when moving back to malaysia (if you plan to) the laptop is much easier to bring back. (i just gave my desktop away. too giant)

then nid to consider other airlines...nid to get a flight from m'sia to canberra and there's no direct flight as canberra has not international airport...

fly to sydney. holiday a little bit and then fly up using virgin air or jetstar or something cheap. unless you are in a rush. check with a travel agency. they will tell you the flight plans really quickly.

hmm..think will not holiday there...on a tight budget b4 i receive money from my scholarship..Is it better to book thru travel agency? Or it will b the same if i do it myself.. really noob here..1st time traveling out of the country..
*
im not really sure. sometimes cheaper to go through agency sometimes cheaper to get tickets on your own. if there are connecting flights then i usually go through travel agencies, because its less complicated for me. you should check with an agency. doesnt mean you have to book through them.

@bibg - i prefer to have my classes together. because sometimes in between classes you have nothing to do. then yeah. you get bored. then you start thinking. should i go home. should i stay here. should i go study. in the end you get annoyed hahahah. pack all your stuff together then open up time on other days. i packed all my classes on Mon, Wed, and Fri. and very few or none on Tuesday and thursday. just to have day off to do nothing or to catch up on school work or whatever.

on campus accommodation si so mahal.here at monash,it's AUD 700+,not including food, internet.even if u ask the immigration officer about where r u going to stay, for sure he'll said that's too expensive.hav to accept the fact, australian universities  cekik darah international students. @_@
*
yeah campus accomodation is always pricey. i guess its a way to make friends in the uni. i stayed off campus my entire uni years. my favorite place i stayed in was around 1300sq. ft. apartment on toorak road which cost a total of AUS$1500 (AUD$750/person) inclusive of electricity and some nice and speedy internet. so if you have time and a friend thats willin to share then go get your own place man. the only thing is you gotta go find furniture. hehehe. i got all my furniture from my cousins in melbourne so it was free icon_idea.gif hahaha. but you can find stuff from the salvation army and stuff like that.

@darkconfidant

strange question. i think the question you need to ask is... "do i want internet in my house or not?" and then go from there. the internet is the same whether at uni or at home. except that uni's usually got a cap on usage per user.

QUOTE(Grimm @ Jan 28 2010, 12:29 PM)
The thing is, I'm not sure at the moment if I would like to live in Australia. Malaysia is home to me, but my parents strongly encourage me to migrate. They say my brother will have a brighter education future there and the whole family might move there. And they keep telling me stories and forwarding me e-mails from their friends who lament about all the shit in this country and where its going - to the dumps - and how they managed to settle down in Australia now and are all living happily.
...the future of malaysia is in the hands of its rakyat and if everyone thinks that the country is going to the dumps then its a really sad thing. before you make the decision you should go meet your parents friends. the ones from the emails. no offence to your parents friends or your parents but you should really ask them for both sides of the stories. usually people will omit all the negative things they are faced with and only share the good things. personally through my experience, malaysia is still my favorite place to live. if you ever do decide to migrate though, never give up your malaysian citizenship.

So many want to get out of Malaysia & run to Australia for better prospect etc... No offense, but its own will & future..

the question post here is; How you guys sure Australia is a safe heaven bet that you feel you are well treated?

Overall, Aust education is going a major overhaul same as their Health sector...again the rising dollar...
many issue arise, asylum seekers etc..
Indian student half out after the racism...
if you are to retire & having family here, the cost is going up..n up..
even more than if you had in msia..

Is Msia that worst? besides the current political climate?
*
imho, the australian education system is very good because the lecturers are actually getting paid what they deserve, but as for their work structure im not too sure. maybe for the short run it would be good to work in australia but i believe it would be difficult to start a life in australia unless you have lots of money. tax is high, along with rent and utilities and such. it would be difficult because no matter how long you stay there, you would be seen as first generation and thus seen as a second class citizen and it would be difficult for someone to get a house, or loans and such esp after the crisis. i dunno if the guy is being supported by his family or not while he is living there, but if i was his parents i would stop sending money once he started working just so he can be independant. its a difficult decision for me/you/his/her/them and lots of things need to be considered.

i think the politics in malaysia suck and sometimes get carried away on unimportant issues, but its not really affecting my way of life much at all in malaysia other than a few price increases once in a while which is common in any country. i dunno why people wanna run away for hmm.gif but it does give good topics for discussion. biggrin.gif

For bed sheet, it's slightly different with Malaysia. I would recommend you only bring fitter sheet. After that, you can buy quilt cover and pillow cover over here. You can't get quilt cover in Malaysia (Please correct me if I'm wrong).

Added on February 4, 2010, 10:15 pmWinter wear, then scarf would be very useful. Wool type of clothes not necessary and you can wear more layers. If you want wool jacket maybe 1 should be enough. I notice that some Korean shops in Melb sell very nice winter wear. Some of the price also quite expensive as compared to internet.
*
yeah you can get quilts in malaysia at lots of places. but i think most of the stuff is imported. so maybe aussie is cheaper. i never bought a quilt in aussie so i dunno the price tongue.gif i curi one quilt from my cuz over there hahah.

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Feb 4 2010, 11:17 PM)
n get ur own trusted moisturizer for ur skin too if ur skin sensitive from winter/cold wind
but u still can get it over Oz..
*
if you looking for moisturiser i think the most popular in aussie is the sorbolene. its like AUD$5 for like 500ml or something ridiculous like that. so cheap over there. its quite heavy to bring your own. one thing i did buy is shampoo from malaysia. and btw. if you get cough often then you should bring cough syrup. those tiny bottles in aus cost a bomb. well the one i bought did. maybe there are cheaper brands hmm.gif
