There plenty of youtube videos, from blending to kicking ipads when they released... These people are just insane!
*
They are not insane. Just helping apple to do R&D. And some advertise boost for apple. And it is good to know how tough is ipad.

The bad is, all this guys brought all the ipad for bashing and smashing and let us Q longertime for a new one. vmad.gif

around 15 second first boot up. But after that, it should be instant like iphone coz most of the time it will be on standby.

If it ON instanlly, I may interest to get one. For reading on the go. I m looking one that can read pdf and mobile. Using laptop to read is quite difficult. From taking out till boost up for use, already take more than 5min. Not yet count when shuting down.

I think Ipad is suitable for you. One distinctive feature is that it is designed to be in standby all the time, just like ipod touch/ipod/iphone
I like to read and always carry my laptop. But problem is laptop are not really mobile enough. Not just like a book where instanlly you can read it. I have a lot of PDF reading but I only able to read it in my home or if I have longertime to powerup my laptop.

I will wait the ipad reach here and try it out before get one.

outdoors reading, is terrible, if you have an iphone you should understand, the glare can really get in the way
*
Not reading outdoor leh. Like taking a half hr rest and you can read something. Reading while sipping coffee in starbuck. The most boring is checking in wating for plane when you have some time. Some more can playing some game and surfing.

Haha reading in starbuck would be nice. You'll be the coolest guy in starbuck for a while. At least before it's launched in Malaysia, which might take some time.
*
Well, not in the hurry. See what bad thing will pop up with this first phase of ipad. And if it too bad, will just wait for the improvement ipad.

I just like to sit and read something rather do nothing dreaming. Whatever coffee shop I will try. As long as it have coffee serve. tongue.gif

Dude, I have a suggestion for you, don't buy from the US, buy from Malaysia. Complaining about it here won't solve your problem and won't convince other people who are willing to buy from the US.

How reliable apple product? I see most of you guy consent about warranty. Is their product alot of deffective?

So for those who planning to get their ipad make sure u have a lot of buddies at States to help u regarding warranty claim?
*
I m not worry about warranty claim if apple product quality is high. I m not sure about that cause I never own a apple product before. And how reliable is it.

The main consent is the battery. The battery only can last 2-3yrs and start to degrade. Would the apple co. here change it for you with a price? Or tell you got to send it back to US? (which are rediculous)

QUOTE(davidmak @ Apr 12 2010, 11:28 AM)
Well Apple has been known to be reliable and consistent in its product quality. Not until recently especially with their new product refresh like iMacs, etc, we heard enough. For the iPAD, we heard about WIFI issues and heat problems causing the OS to stop responding momentarily.

Let me give you an idea on buying an overseas product with no warranty support locally. The Nexus One was plagued with RAM problems in one of its first batches. Causing crazy reboots like it has a mind on its own. The buyers? They didn't really get stuck. They can still return it through the traders. They could go through the Singapore route for repairs. Its just a lot of inconvenience and disappointment from the users.

My iBook G4 is 6 years old and still running great. My Macbook air died within months.

To answer your question above, any manufactured products can and have defects. As far as i can remember from my experience, although apple products are more sturdy than their counterparts but that doesn't mean they have no defects.

Well,i would be concerned of a valid warranty for an iPad of such value regardless of the company's background. You wouldn't want a RM2000 paper weight

I did brought gadget from oversea and here too for many yrs. So far I don't encounter warranty issue. Cause I will check the product reliability history. If not reliable, I will makesure it have int. warranty.

My example 1. Many yrs before I brought a sony camcorder in HK. The gadget got problem from the beginning. Claim warranty here in malaysia. They replace a new one for me. That is I makesure got int. warranty.

example 2: Recently brought a NAS from US. Cheaper rm1000 from here. But I will not get the warranty from US and here too. Cause I intend to mod the NAS from beginning. That will void the warranty. So no point I buy from here cause it expensive.

Bro, learn to control it. Unless you are rich guy. If it for fun, it in entertaimnet catergory. Wait and see if have better deal. Not asking you not to buy.

I m gadget freak too since 90's. After such a longtime, I learn to control. I still buy new gadget. But will wait and see. Delaying buying will always make good judgement later. It save a lot too. smile.gif

Oh oh! Bad news for international fan and here.

QUOTE
Apple delays iPad's international release
Apple fans in Japan, the United Kingdom and seven other countries will have to wait longer to get their hands on iPads.

Apple is postponing the international release of its new iPad because of stronger-than-expected demand for the device in the United States, the company said Wednesday.

A statement posted on Apple’s Web site said Apple has delivered more than 500,000 iPads since they went on sale in the United States on April 3 and the company expects demand to stay high.

“Faced with this surprisingly strong U.S. demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May,” the post said.

The slate computer was originally scheduled to go on sale April 24 in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Apple now will begin taking international pre-orders on May 10.

“We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason - the iPad is a runaway success in the U.S. thus far,” Apple's post read.

The iPad is a touch-screen, wireless computer that occupies the digital turf somewhere between a laptop and a smartphone. The model available now in the U.S. connects to the Internet over a Wi-Fi connection. Later this month Apple will start selling an iPad version that connects to the Web via 3G wireless service from AT&T.

pretty much the same as how you would sync an iPhone. You cannot make it an external drive. If you got Pages then you can add files to it. If you got Numbers then you can add files to it. Other than that you can sync your photos, music and videos like how you would on an iPhone.

Thanks. I never use apple product before. I m using PDA. No problem with pc sync.

So pretty same with those PDA phone.

Man. Why the hell US comeout the product so fast. We here still waiting the ipad. And now ipad 3g is coming out end of the month.

QUOTE
iPad 3G to be released April 30

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The Apple iPad models for use on AT&T's 3G network will be available at the company's stores starting at 5 p.m. local time on April 30, and the devices will be delivered on the same day to customers who pre-ordered.

The Wi-Fi + 3G models of the tablet computer will cost $629 for 16GB of memory; $729 for 32GB; and $829 for 64GB.

Internet access over the 3G cell phone network is offered through AT&T and does not require a contract. Previously, Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) has said 3G coverage will cost $14.99 for 250MB of data per month, or $29.99 a month for unlimited data.

Models that can be used only through Wi-Fi networks hit stores on April 3, costing $499 for 16GB; $599 for 32GB; and $699 for 64GB.

Customers who buy iPads at an Apple retail store will receive free "personal setup service," in which employees load up email and apps onto the device.

U.S. consumers can buy the iPad at Apple retail stores, the company's website, most Best Buy stores, some authorized resellers and campus bookstores.

Apple also said the iPad will be available at the end of May in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. International pricing announcements and online pre-orders will start May 10.

Guys, need an opinion, plan to buy a mini laptop which cost 1k+, as this ipad also cost around, which is the ideal choice? what funny and extra thing can this ipad do compare to mini laptop?
*
I will choose to buy ipad than mini laptop or netbook. Even now I asking my gf to hold first from buying netbook. Once the ipad arrive here, will ask her to check it out and suit her or not. Since she just like to blog, facebook, email, surfing and photo only.
