I think Ipad is suitable for you. One distinctive feature is that it is designed to be in standby all the time, just like ipod touch/ipod/iphone

Dude, I have a suggestion for you, don't buy from the US, buy from Malaysia. Complaining about it here won't solve your problem and won't convince other people who are willing to buy from the US.

Well Apple has been known to be reliable and consistent in its product quality. Not until recently especially with their new product refresh like iMacs, etc, we heard enough. For the iPAD, we heard about WIFI issues and heat problems causing the OS to stop responding momentarily.

Let me give you an idea on buying an overseas product with no warranty support locally. The Nexus One was plagued with RAM problems in one of its first batches. Causing crazy reboots like it has a mind on its own. The buyers? They didn't really get stuck. They can still return it through the traders. They could go through the Singapore route for repairs. Its just a lot of inconvenience and disappointment from the users.

My iBook G4 is 6 years old and still running great. My Macbook air died within months.

To answer your question above, any manufactured products can and have defects. As far as i can remember from my experience, although apple products are more sturdy than their counterparts but that doesn't mean they have no defects.

Well,i would be concerned of a valid warranty for an iPad of such value regardless of the company's background. You wouldn't want a RM2000 paper weight

my expenses of getting one 32gb is bit cheaper but cancelled the oder yesterday  , after feeling it was a impulsive purchase...

Apple delays iPad's international release
Apple fans in Japan, the United Kingdom and seven other countries will have to wait longer to get their hands on iPads.

Apple is postponing the international release of its new iPad because of stronger-than-expected demand for the device in the United States, the company said Wednesday.

A statement posted on Apple’s Web site said Apple has delivered more than 500,000 iPads since they went on sale in the United States on April 3 and the company expects demand to stay high.

“Faced with this surprisingly strong U.S. demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May,” the post said.

The slate computer was originally scheduled to go on sale April 24 in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Apple now will begin taking international pre-orders on May 10.

“We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason - the iPad is a runaway success in the U.S. thus far,” Apple's post read.

The iPad is a touch-screen, wireless computer that occupies the digital turf somewhere between a laptop and a smartphone. The model available now in the U.S. connects to the Internet over a Wi-Fi connection. Later this month Apple will start selling an iPad version that connects to the Web via 3G wireless service from AT&T.

i'm interested in the ipad mostly for the ebook reader since kindle seems a bit too complicated to own and to purchase the books. plus ipad offers more than kindle;)

pretty much the same as how you would sync an iPhone. You cannot make it an external drive. If you got Pages then you can add files to it. If you got Numbers then you can add files to it. Other than that you can sync your photos, music and videos like how you would on an iPhone.

iPad 3G to be released April 30

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The Apple iPad models for use on AT&T's 3G network will be available at the company's stores starting at 5 p.m. local time on April 30, and the devices will be delivered on the same day to customers who pre-ordered.

The Wi-Fi + 3G models of the tablet computer will cost $629 for 16GB of memory; $729 for 32GB; and $829 for 64GB.

Internet access over the 3G cell phone network is offered through AT&T and does not require a contract. Previously, Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) has said 3G coverage will cost $14.99 for 250MB of data per month, or $29.99 a month for unlimited data.

Models that can be used only through Wi-Fi networks hit stores on April 3, costing $499 for 16GB; $599 for 32GB; and $699 for 64GB.

Customers who buy iPads at an Apple retail store will receive free "personal setup service," in which employees load up email and apps onto the device.

U.S. consumers can buy the iPad at Apple retail stores, the company's website, most Best Buy stores, some authorized resellers and campus bookstores.
