hi guys, i got my iPad wifi version and have been enjoying it for the pass 2days. However, when i bring it out then only i realize how inconvenience to find a hotspot to surf...

kinda regret it, should have waited for the 3G version cause i didn't know the 3G can be used with any telco as long as the sim can go in. sad.gif

if i'm going to sell it and buy the 3G it's going to be a big waste of money lol. bah maybe i'll just stick to it since i sort if use it for educational purpose. sweat.gif

dont worry, you can either:

i) use your mobile phone as a 3G router
ii) buy a 3G wifi router and have TOTAL connectivity even in the car/train
iii) sell your ipad and wait for the 3g version

i'm going on option 2 as i also travel to places with limited wifi.
*
hmm actually you have a point for the router, at least i can share the connection using other laptop/device.

but after using the iPad for 2 days i can see the monster battery life i can literally sit in starbuck cafe whole day and i won't run out of battery. i believe using the 3G will still provide longer battery life...

maybe i should just stick with option 2...but the 3G is really tempting lol. sweat.gif

ah, looks like i prefer the 3G version than the MiFi solution, cause i don't need worry about the battery life and i've read that the 3G version seems to last just as long as the regular WiFi version.

still considering selling my 64GB iPad WiFi...

yeah..the battery life same as wifi version..better buy 3g than wifi...but for me, i rather wait until ipad officially lunch at malaysia then i buy 3g version..for now better stick with wifi version 1st

i believe in first batch "gambling".

i bought the N95 8GB before, pretty new that time but AP set, use until now 2 1/2 year also the slider rock solid despite i dropped it few times. i've also read that when the iphone hit singapore, lots of people return the iphone because problems with the screen.

on the other hand, first batch of the product will also carry chance to have bugs and manufacturing defects.

so i rather gamble on the first batch production. since it's unlock, i don't need to worry anything anyway. maybe accidently destroy my sim card... laugh.gif

hi guys i decided to keep my iPad WiFi with the following reason:

1. i don't use 3G often to surf internet. paying monthly fees for 3G data services (like maxis/digi broadband) seems not worth it.

2. even if i going to use, it's going to be very light surfing or emergency need, i installed joikuspot on my N95 so my N95 is plenty as a tethering device and it's even better cause i can use it with any other devices, and i don't need to spend money on MiFi. i also found out the huawei MiFi can't be charge and access at the same time, you need to drain the battery then only can charge. everybody know you can charge your phone while doing anything with it...

3. if i use the 3G service, my top priority is to download lots of youtube video and use them for educational purpose, which is a no go because:
A) all 3G "unlimited" access are all BS as they all have bandwidth capping and limited quota and i'm going to finish the quota very quickly (Celcom unlimited quota is super expensive), i'd rather use maxis day pass 500MB a day for RM8 (cheaper than ordering a cup of coffebean/starbuck coffee!).
B) 3G data services are not as stable is it seems, youtube over 3G is pretty unstable and i don't want to be frustrated in the middle of teaching. i rather doing all the downloads at home and use them on the lessons.
C) the only place i use for educational purpose is at uni, which has wifi, rendering 3G useless.

so if anyone of you facing the same dilemma as me, hope my analysis will help you to decide and save more money. biggrin.gif

PS: thanks for the folks who were interested in my iPad, and sorry to disappoint you with my decision. blush.gif

did anyone encounter the word "not charging" appear next to the battery?
not to worry read this ---> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060

thanks for the tips!

actually i doubt the USB cable wasn't able to charge the iPad. last night i was installing some cydia thingy and the SBSetting messed up my iPad and the GUI become the iTouch. sweat.gif

and then? the battery start charging. it's slow, but it IS possible to charge. it's more like a software limitation, or maybe Apple wants to prevent damage to the battery? restored my iPad and it's all back to normal.

nevertheless, i can't see why iPad can't charge via USB/Laptop in sleep mode, but can't in operating mode.

Haha glad you came to a decision bro, and I think it's the smart one to make.
My plan for thehuawei is to just get a prepaid weekly/monthly package to use hem I'm at a clients office or anywhere without wifi. It's also gonna be useful when I'm in the car on a drive and the iPad becomes an in car computer smile.gif
*
actually for the time being that's my decision lo...who knows maybe I kena poison then i rush out to buy the 3G version. laugh.gif

the situation is that I can live without the fancy gadgets and mobile Internet, but you know, since you have a choice, why not? biggrin.gif

How to disable 'auto check' word that i type in iPad...when I type Malay word it will convert to English...haisyh
*
i normally press on the word correction to dismiss the word correction. it's pretty handy though I like it very much.

To disable it go to setting, general, keyboard and disable the auto correction.

The landscape keyboard rules, i can type like desktop keyboard despite my hand pretty big. thumbup.gif

today i tried tethering with my good old N95 8GB. it really kill the battery fast... sweat.gif

but it works! so i guess i don't need the 3G version. saw some review stating that iPad 3G on AT&T cellular seems to have some limitation on appstore and itunes store that cap the file size at 20MB, as well as crappy youtube loading which is even worse than regular FLV quality (which is my main purpose of having a 3G). sweat.gif

tethering with my nokia load youtube without a single problem, everythign stream as like i'm using wifi. so i guess my choice is correct (so obvious i'm brainwashing myself brows.gif)!

maybe will rush out to buy a MiFi...

Well said..

suddenly some PC freaks jump in this thread and start divert...

how frequent on-the-go people use ther laptop other than movie/songs/internet?

it's pretty simple, iPad is aimed for those people who love to youtube/movie/songs/internet on the go, like ipod touch, but with big screen. talking especially the battery life...boy you don't need to snatch the tables with power socket in coffee bean or starbucks and you can enjoy your coffee at the most comfortable sofa...

BTW, any ipad user experience weak wifi signal? my N95 can detect the signals and AP more than my ipad, and display stronger signal. my ipad can even dropout with the wifi modem in my house...

Apple iPad will be available at Malaysia stores and authorized resellers nations wide in July 23 with starting price RM1,699 for 16GB WIFI and goes to RM2,899 for 64GB WIFI+3G.
*
not possible, if you do a very simple math.

ipod touch 64GB is now RM1600 (RM1599 to be exact), and that's for US$399. cheapest ipad is US$499, added US$100 easily add RM400 on top of the RM1600 ipod touch price. so if you buy RM2200 for ipad wifi 16GB now, you're not overpaying a lot.

RM2899 sounds a lot more like the 64GB 3G-less version, 64GB 3G can easily shoot up to RM3399~RM3499.

Most likely RM2899 with 2years contract on maxis biggrin.gif
*
if you do some research, you can use the ipad with ANY telco as long as they provide micro sim (or DIY by cutting the stardard sim), even the US ipads.

so the chance for maxis to apply the contract on the ipads will be 0.000001%, even if they DARE to do it, imagine how many people will boycott maxis. laugh.gif

rm3300 and above for 64gb 3g kinda expensive..dont think the price will go above 3k...

ya.thts y i m waiting here in australia..can pre-order for now but mayb straight head to apple store and feel it...
i think it is impossible for ur price estimation..
many ppl will think not worth for RM3k+..n not fair to compare ipod touch 64gb with 16gb ipad
*
that's just my estimation based on the ipad/iphone range...it kinda make sense to compare to ipod because ipad is basically a giant ipod touch. laugh.gif

allow me to requote my previous speculation..
if u use macbook pro price as reference as it is the latest release among apple product line in malaysia,

(3899/1199)*499 = 1622

simple math + current trending  laugh.gif
*
yup but you're comparing a different range of product...i see macs one family and iphone/ipod touch (excluding other ipods)/ipad as a family. hmm.gif

but i see no point arguing, let's just wait and see the price. biggrin.gif

iPad apps are available on your current iTunes Malaysia account. This will have to be done on your PC for now, using iTunes, then sync to your iPad, just like your iPhone.
*
have you even try to buy apps from itunes on your PC?

no go. i tried to buy ipad apps using MY account, it keep denying my billing/credit card info, although i make sure my details are 100% correct and triple checked, they still deny it.

i think it's because they don't allow non-US credit card purchases.

Looks like Apple came out with a wifi compatibility announcement

Fix: Adjust screen brightness

* Check to see if your screen brightness is set to the lowest level by going to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper. If brightness is at lowest level, increase it by moving the slider to the right and set auto brightness to off.[QUOTE]Adjust screen brightness.

i asked about weak wifi experience few pages back, but nobody responded to my post...

and yes they just acknowledged it and coming out with a fix.

my problem is, i can detect some wifi hotspot even with my N95 but detect nothing with my ipad. doesn't sound too much like software issue though, if it's really hardware then i really don't know what to do. sweat.gif

QUOTE(Cristiano-Ronaldo-7 @ May 12 2010, 08:01 PM)
guys, is it possible to use a 3G enabled handphone(iPhone or BB) to act as the router for the iPad, i read earlier that some one used the HD touch 2 as the router.

how did that turn out?
*
yes, use tethering software to do so. on nokia, search for joikuspot. ppc or other os I dont know...

it works very well only for short term use, or your phone will get hot as it constant connect to 3g aend open wifi at the same time. i have to use a charger if want to use for long time. 1 hour of using joikuspot can drain the bettery to half or even empty depends on your phone.

get the iPad 3G if you want to stay connected. but if you analyze your daily need you might not find you need the 3G connection afterall.
