here's my wishlist for iSlate / iTablet / iPad / God-&-Steve-only-know-what-its-gonna-be-called :

oleophobic screen,
onscreen keyboard (on demand only like iPhone)
additional 3 + 4 finger gestures,
1 USB port
audio out
video out (miniDisplay is good enough)
Mac OS X (not iPhone OS)
bluetooth + wifi.

here's what would make it killer :
sandbox iPhone apps (run them like widgets) *but then how the accelerometer and GPS*
docking / syncing accessory for Mac users.
*
i would hope for more than 1 usb... at least 2, 3 would be great.

at least 10", A4 size would be wonderful

comes with some sort of stand/dock

and - built in hdspa modem (but no call function). true connectivity on the go.

I think alot of ppl are missing the point on what the iPad is for.

It's not an iPhone.
It's not an iPod.
It's not a Macbook.

So stop comparing the iPad with the above devices. There WILL be uses for it.
Get over it.

from here, it looks exactly like an ipod touch + ebook reader.

those doesn't come included with the box, that means more $$ for the accessories
from technical POV, it is an iPhone albeit a bigger size, minus the camera and GSM chip for teh very obvious reason
from Apple marketing POV, well why should we believe a team with ZERO female in it, hence the name -- iTampon aka iPad
*
isnt iphone - GM - camera = ipod touch?

And out of curiosity, which are the apps that you've read that cannot change their orientation views?
iirc, keynote only runs in landscape (mentioned during the presentation)

i too, can definitely see the use for it in place of laptops and netbooks for people who is always on the go and yet need to access information/do small data entry.

seeing ipad version of iworks really make me go wow. wonder if microsoft will make ipad version of office? since as nice as iworks is, it cant replace office in the workplace.

only negative i see is the lack of usb and/or sd card reader. imagine if you are working and someone say, hey, let me give you this file on my thumbdrive/sd card....

and it better have some sort of finder built in as it is now dealing with some files that may need organizing.

and i wonder how hot it gets with running at full power. seeing that i dont think there is a fan attached.

who on earth rotate their device over and over again while using it? they can always fix the camera to work at certain direction that they see fit. a camera lens should be protected and not exposed anyway so why cant we touch it.
wow just because it runs opengl it is godlike? how was the graphic quality? most games as of now is running opengl as well. i wonder if this ipad/iphone/ipod can take crysis, o wait nvm that is too much, halflife2 perhaps? for something that cant even multitask and play >640x480 mp4 videos as of now, the 3d rendering must be 'promising' for sure.

also please do some research before saying netbooks cant run opengl games. however, if you intend to me make lol, u are successful. ever heard of nvidia ion? google it up

vista? that is outdated but am not surprise if it is from u cuz u can randomly blurt of crap like netbook cant run opengl

you must not know apple. do you know how long it take for them to implement "non core function that is nice to have and every other competitor have" (eg fm radio on ipod; sd card reader on notebooks; etc etc) on their device?

front facing camera will come in future version if the demand is there. right now, vid conferencing imho is very very seldom used.

lol, basically you want a mac pro in a tablet?

dude want to watch movie get a LCD tv just RM1299!!!

good luck plugging your lcd tv on battery and watching it while on plane or while chilling at starbucks.

and i have used netbooks, and for me, it is crap. i can barely type on in (when trying to use as laptops) due to its tiny keyboard, and its hard to read anything on it at a typical laptop using position (i always have to bend down and squint a little)

and because it has a keyboard, i cant balance it comfortably in "lounge" mode - when i'm lepaking on sofa or bed or whatever. i always have to hold and support the keyboard part while trying to read the screen. its bad ergonomics.

while i'm not saying the ipad is better than netbooks. i want to try it out and see if the pad/slate/tablet form factor makes it easier to use in "lounge" mode.

while typing discomfort is something subjective on a netbook, an ipad's virtual keyboard wont be any larger considering they have to fit the keyboard plus whatever you are typing to, on a <10" screen
*
agreed. any serious typing on ipad ought to be done using an external bluetooth keyboard (oh how i wish they have usb) while putting the ipad on a stand. virtual keyboard only for light note taking or editing

sure i could do the same for a netbook, but then whats the point of having that keyboard portion that ends up messing up with balance and center of gravity while on the go?

also virtual keyboard can be useful in certain situation such as numerical data entry for example or as a fancy scientific graphing calculator. lets see the netbook do that efficiently.

on the go as in? because with tablet-style, there is no way for you to type/stylus without resting it on a flat surface for proper support as well. on the side note, maybe you are not aware of the existent of tablet netbooks.
on the go, inputting while mostly mobile.

think of supermarket stockist. right now, they are either checking stock by paper scraps or pushing big trolley with desktop/laptop with barcode scanner. replace desktop/laptop with ipad (with barcode scanner extension)

or doctors calling up patient medical history, then recording medicine into server

or engineers/technicians entering technical output of large plants

most of this is done using paper scraps currently. ipad has the potential to change this into electronic medium - there is an app for that, lol

if you see the demos, inputting data is done using only 4 fingers or your forearm as support comfortably. netbooks cant do that. the ergonomics is not there.

tablets might, but compared to tablets, ipad wins on cost and weight; and also a more touch inspired OS.

also tablets/netbooks have another disadvantage, mechanical hinges and plastics generally mean its less robust. open vents and fans means dust accumulation. ipad has no mechanical parts except 2-3 buttons. with some 3rd party dock-stopper means no place for dust to get into. aluminium case means you can be rather rough to it.

seriously... when I use my notebook I only use my USB for Harddrive and nope nothing else.. sometime is my external speaker lor...

so is USB that important??? apple prove it with the macbook air that usb is not quite really important..
*
usb drive is one of the main method of file transfer. hassle free, plug and play too. wireless/bt you need to sync and jump through hoops

this is especially true if you wish to penetrate into enterprise and workspace. in office people may just go "hey, my data is in this thumbdrive, let me transfer to you" more often than "let me bt my data over to you". this is even more true when you deal with external people (internal you can have a central hosting server and just add wifi)

if usb is not really important, mba will have 0 usb port.

unless apple have no intention of penetrating into business enterprise, then i have nothing to say (other than apple is dumb) business executive (esp sales) can so use devices such as these.

here, let me show you our products (flip through pdf viewer); here is how it works (play demo video); your special requirements are... (tap tap tap in data); oh you have something for me? sorry, no usb (bummer)

speaking of which, a mini display port would be swell too (to connect keynotes to projector)

ic.. that's why AIR is selling well... oh wait..

a true fanboy justify everything eh? tongue.gif

anyway, i would say ipad should look like JooJoo@crunchpad : LINK. That article said CSL will invest in it. Too bad it cant store anything and only run web apps.. if it come with let say moblin it would be nice.
*
i believe the price play a bigger factor in why the air is not selling well. personally, if its ~4k i would have gotten it without thinking. everything in it is perfect except for the price. 1 more usb would be wonderful, but i can live with 1 (and a hub)

But all we know now is that a new update for the iPhone OS is on the way and should support multitasking. That should coincide with the upcoming new iPhone. Lets just hope that iPAD will be included too.

Remember iPhone OS updates were free for recent iPhones but chargeable for iPod Touches? Engadget reported the same game rules for iPad.
*
reports saying ipad only has 256mb ram. multi tasking would be sub optimal at best
