http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ibooks/id364709193?mt=8link to download iBooks app. US accounts only though. Looks like I was right about the controls being done via iTunes account. As long as you've got a US account, you can still get the ebooks. At least until the iBooks store is available for other countries

QUOTE(klweekly @ Apr 11 2010, 06:04 PM) All the local Mac stores know nothing about the arrival of the iPad in Malaysia. So much for being official Mac store. Most of the time they are as clueless as anyone else. Those are not official mac stores. They're authorized resellers. there's a difference. Also, even for official stores, unless they've been given permission to tell the public the release date, you're going to get the same response as well.

QUOTE(pip @ Apr 11 2010, 07:31 PM) On the issue of pricing: I won't be surprised if people will do direct conversion without shipping + tax + profit margins! Remember, iPhone was US$299, so RM 1000 right? Then iPad US$499, so Apple Malaysia is forced to sell at RM 1700? Haha.. I say, add 25% more for better guesstimate! The price of the iPhone was never USD299 in the first place. That's the price of the iPhone package from the carriers in the US, not the phone itself. Now, what that will indeed mark up the price of the iPad will be actually tax. However this depends on what sort of device the iPad is classified under, on whether its classified as a mobile computer, or an entertainment device.

QUOTE(davidmak @ Apr 13 2010, 08:23 AM) Frankly speaking it is an unnecessary device hehehe but no harm having a fun device. I can foresee future students bring a slate device like iPAD with their reading material loaded in the device. No more textbooks. Heck, maybe they have more than one slate just in case they need to refer to more than one book at a time. For now, most of your content and resources are on the textbook, journals, etc. So no go there hehehe... This does depend on the initiative of the school to digitize their content for distribution on the device though.
