you don't get the Pixel Plus/HD engine with LG, just like you don't get BE2/BE3 with Samsung

is LG/Samsung engine better? only you can decide, but I've used PP (non HD) before and I think I like it

in the hifi world...philips and marantz used to have similar parts...i'm more of a philips fan when it comes to cd and dvd players....

as for display panel - maybe theyve not been that aggressive in marketing...they should coz their quality should be on par with the rest smile.gif

nope. I dun think its as easy as samsung is using panny chipset as u simplified. Still alot of differences. Not so simple as that. Not to mention warranty and aftersales quality and price.

I got this one free from ING-PBB MRTA loan contest.
Use it to watch mkv file via vga cable. Quality is good.
I don't have hdmi player. No comment on this.
Btw, how much is Philips LCD TV 42PFL5609S 42" Full HD 1080p?

I've been using Philip = CRT TV, Video Player, Astro Decoder, DVD HTiB for more than 7 years. All never failed me.

But for LCD, I feel 42PFL7409 is the best of Philips model, beside lower end 5000 & 3000 series which are just so so. Only concern it's my budget.
Therefore, I've end up breaking the tie of single brand AV & end up with Panasonic, Plasma & got myself Pioneer AV Receiver (using back my old Philips HTiB's speaker & DVD player).

Well, I still got all the brand start with "P"...wakaka tongue.gif

thanks!

A long time user of Philips TV - I used to own a 36" flatscreen CRT with Pixel Plus - it was brilliant, so I'm fairly convinced about the 7409 (my friend got a 9000 series notworthy.gif ) just waiting for prices to come down a bit...

The listed entity was called LG Philips when it first IPOed... now it is just LG Display after Philips sold down it's stake. It also sold it's stake in TPV the largest monitor OEM maker. Commitment of Philip to the display market is hence doubtful and they are rumoured to be looking to sell this business. Sign of times as they were one of the main CRT players

Samsung & Sony has a JV 8G fab called SLCD which they spilt the outpput 50/50 amongst themselves. Future collaboration does not look likely.

Both Philip and Sony sources panels from the Taiwanese AUO & CMI nowadays

In any case the panel helps but is usually not the deciding factor for PQ. Usually the processors that decodes and drives signals are more important.
