Why 42 replace means 50s need to replace also?

A repeated question I posted on another duplicated S series thread...Why need to replace S series when the older C & X series still selling? Unless something wrong wth the TV?

The one that I heard need rweplacement from Harvey norman, Sen Q & another panny retailer is the C series hmm.gif

nope.. usually manufacturers replace the volume sellers first.. the larger units usually still the older "series", so old and new series may sell side by side depending on sizes..

Noticed there are a lot of Panasonic promotions over the new year - some of my friends called me to check out the Giant promotion catalog for the Panasonic 42" LCD TV for 2598 RM Citibank 12-month instalment scheme - but I guess its a marketing ploy to draw in the crowds unless they have actual units for sale - if really RM2600 then I straightaway will buy

if panny want to clear plasma stock and sell LCD only, why they go and build the largest plasma factory? duh..

Actually, I believe the plants are now manufacturing panels for Y2010 release now. This happens every year. CES2010 is around the corner and they will showcase their new 2010 panels, 2010 panels will normally be available in April timeframe. So manufacturing has moved to 2010 models. The S series was popular in most Asian countries as it was an affordable 1080p model. So demand was higher than expected.

Plasma technology is going nowhere. These days, LCD and LED TV is the new thing. In the long run, I'm sure Pana doesn't want to be known for old school technology. Even Pioneer stopped making Kuro series. Furthermore, I read somewhere California is making a regulation to ban certain plasma series that consume too much energy compared to energy saving LCD.

What so new about lcd or led backlights?
As for energy consumption, paying rm6 more a month doesnt concern me.

Google up 5Lumens/Watt and 10 Lumens/Watt. This is how plasma if it survives to see that technology can reduce power consumption and make the panels brighter.

I think 2009 was the year where plasma demonstrated killer contrast ratios and lower power consumption possibilities. However, Pioneer pulled out due to not being able to compete.

LED backlit LCDs are they way for delivering better blacks as well for LCDs to battle back.

Remember NeoPDPs were only ~ 3L/Watt and the energy consumptions have already dropped.

2011, if plasma is around is when we will start seeing 5L/W tech starting to come out. Let's see.

If not, I'm sure some new technology will be out to compete.

laser rear projection TV seems pretty good.. thumbup.gif 100inches, with 6inch depth..
with 1080Hz refresh.. extremely smooth 3D

http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=n...over&id=7013471
Laser technology advocates claim the displays will:
* be half the weight and cost of plasma displays
* require around 25% of the power required by Plasma displays
* be very thin like plasma and LCD displays are today
* have a very wide colour gamut, twice that of current HDTVs.
* have a very long life
* maintain full power output for the lifespan of the laser, resulting in a picture that doesn't progressively degrade over time (which happens with technologies such as plasma, LCD and CRT)
* never suffer from screen burn-in; Burn-in is caused by uneven use of color reproduction elements across a screen's surface, but laser TVs bypass this completely

Similar to Mitsubishi's laser TV?

Anyway, got some wind to Panny's 2010 release. Better blacks compared to 2009 and some bug fixes....Not reaching Kuro blacks yet, but expected to reach in 2011...Hopefully they have a good CMS or at least their colour gamut is correct....

Er...

I have a friend who recently (last week) came over to my place to look at my Panasonic TH-P42S10K and wanted one.

He went to our local Panashop and found out that Panasonic Malaysia had cleared all their stock and will only be getting more in Feb 2010 (Japanese company has strict "just in time" stock policy).

So, maybe more will be available in Feb 2010.

it's good to see that panasonic is going towards fullHD for all it's panel (the C2 is the only one with 720p).

i hope that the C2 has a res of 1366*768 instead of 1024*768....and better/lower price than the current 2009 C model.
