Tip: If your TV have both HDMI and component connector available, connect both to your Byond decoder. Watch HD on HDMI and SD on component.  SD channel more vivid and sharper on  component. It does make a difference.  rclxms.gif

Agree!  doh.gif For now,i'm using a Panasonic 40" Plasma and i'm using HDMI to connect the Astro Byond to my TV. But it seems that, when i watch SD channels using HDMI,the PQ seems to be a bit lower compared to if i watch SD channels using composite. Can you explain why is that so? Or is it just me that feels the PQ is lower.
*
Hi all, i plan to convert to Astro Beyond soon. i really like watching movei in HD.

But after reading this, abit worried, pay for 4 good channel but have to sacrifice the picture quality for the rest of other channel. (Wah Lai Toi, MTV etc etc)

For my old non astro beyond decoder, i found out that S cable give the best PQ.

Would like to check again, since the new decoder use HDMI to give the best PQ for HD channel, will it affect the normal non HD channel PQ, at least on par with the S-cable quality?

thanks in advance for clarification.

I did not use a very expensive S-video cable, so for me the PQ for other SD channels seems to be the same

BTW, sad news is, I only managed to watch my astro for 2 hours after the B.yond installation... After a heavy rain now totally cannot receive signal, and need to wait the technician to come and resolve this issue.
*
thanks bro. at least it will not be that bad. perhaps some bro with S video cable last time can comment on this.

haiz, astro and the heavy rain, i think forever not able to solve!

yes, this is the main concern.. as for me, i've no doubt on the HD channel eventhough it's 720p n upscaling
to 1080i. But what about the rest of SD channel? My wife sure will  mad.gif after those free promo of astro byond been
briefed  by me for last couple of weeks, end up the SD PQ worst than current composite cable set up biggrin.gif
And all those NatGeo, History n sports mostly watch by me only...

haha, yo bro! exactly the same situation i'm in now smile.gif for sure will kena screw big time if normal SD channel have worse PQ.

let's hope some astro beyond owner here can help us smile.gif

Got my Astro byond today..!

happy with the the HD quality..

Okay, most of you face problem with installer trying to activate your astro byond eh? same here..  It seems like a genuine problem. Installer do it in front of me. system error.. !

afternoon only ok.. and my astro byond starts receiving transmission.

~~~~
found out something interesting..
I install my Astro Byond at my house.., planning to move in only end of this month.
I didn't return the old decoder and dish.. and pay the installer RM80.
I did ask the installer.., can I just bring back this new decoder to my current house and use the old dish..
The installer said - ooh.. cannot.., signal different.., you need me to adjust your positioning. This new HD satellite is not the same position like previous one.
I said to him - No need lah.., i try my luck.
Back home.. , i disconnect my old astro decoder, reconnect new one.. and.. on the decoder..!
change the transponder to no.18.. got the highest signal...!
naaaah! myth busted!! old dish can use with new decoder and don't have to change any position at all!
so.. it was installer laa try to BS us..
so.. for those of you .. thinking of keeping your old dish and decoder.. I think it's worth it.
When I move out, I might dismantle the old dish and keep it for spare and travel.
Yes.., I have brought my Astro Dish with me for balik kampung trip.., camping trip..! just adjust it to the correct angle.. and voilaa! you got a live EPL matches near the beach! (provided got electricity laa! biggrin.gif)
bro, good idea. but i heard the new smartcard will not work in old decoder, i know u have verified the dish, can u check on the decoder? else the spare decoder for travelling plan will fail.
thanks.
Hi all, just want to confirm my understanding below is correct for Audio setup.
Setup 1: (Pro-Logic)
Connect using HDMI from decoder to TV, then RCA frm TV to amp. Remote should work to control volume right?
Seyup 2: (HD quality sound)
Connect HDMI from decoder to TV, then HDMI from TV to amp.
Hi all, just got my Astro Beyond fully installed at 6pm today. Guess I’m quite lucky as I just called for installation on Tue. All done within 4 days. Btw, I’m frm Penang.
Tue – call and subscribe to beyond
Wed – receive a call frm Astro Dealer (KL), told me long que, need to wait til early Feb.
Fri – Installer suddenly call me in afternoon told me ready to install. What a surprise.
Ok. Below is my review from my experience with beyond for 1.5 hr.
1.HD channel is really superb. Supersports is the best IMO.
2.The astro supersport HD sign on the channel is annoying. It appear near the centre of TV instead of top right corner. Other channel the HD sign is at the top left, so it’s good.
3.PQ for SD channel through HDMI really degrade compared to S-video connection. (I might try to buy a component cable and test it tonight)
4.Following bro lapaz advice, able to connect through coaxial frm amp to beyond. Sound is good frm my speaker. Not using the crap tv speaker.
5.Stupid Astro, if connect thru coaxial, cant control the volume up down with astro remote. (read frm this forum that it’s like that, crap)
6.Volume is different when switch frm HD to SD. (it’s a lot louder in HD)
7.Updated my software following the instruction from this forum. Firmware is 23 dec 2009.
8.Sync my remote with TV following manual. very easy.
9.Measat #1 give 214 signal strength, Measat #18 give 245. but I cant locked it, auto change back to Measat #1.
10.Some channel is missing. Installer told me to whack CS as it happens to a lot of ppl after convert to beyond. Anyone done within 10 min after I call CS and screw them. hehe smile.gif
Now some questions, hope some sifus with astro beyond can comment.
1.Will SD channel PQ improve if I connect thru component compared to HDMI? (because I will go and purchase a component cable tonight if it is true)
2.For audio connection frm beyond to amp thru coaxial, how come volume not able to be controlled by astro remote. I read frm this forum that it is like that. But how come?
3.How to get true digital surround? We only have one HDMI in the astro beyond. That only one is used to connect to TV. We don’t have 2nd one to connect frm astro beyond to amp to get HD audio.
4.how to solve the volume different when switch from HD to SD? I read frm this thread firmware upgrade will help. But I already done mine still not able to solve
5.I can switch satellite to measat #18 but cant save it. When I press back it automatically switch to Measat #1. any solution to this?
Thanks so much guys.
Now hope for more channel especially ESPN to come and also the recording feature.
get an avr, newer models have 3/4 or more hdmi ports.
hi bro, i mean the astro decoder have only 1 HDMI port, one is used for TV connection, even AVR have HDMI port also no use because astro only come with HDMI port, maybe i miss out something as my knowledge in HT is very minimal. thanks.
if your amp is modern AVR, connect HD decoder to AVR to TV via HDMI
if your amp is old, can use coaxial digital audio, or even RCA audio
well,as i said b4,i've done all of the step...change to #18>turn off>open>still no luck....
can u try again?
1. power off ur decoder. switch the power off.
2. go to satelite settings and choose #18, then accept it when prompted a choice of yes and no.
3. after this you should see OK button on the bottom left.
4. press OK and u r done!
if not done properly u wont see the OK button. this is what happened to me. then it will be reset to #1 again.
1) The SD ch PQ will be much more better with a decent component cable.
2) The astro remote volume control is only meant for analog audio out. Digital coax is for amplifier which has its own volume control.
3) you can use coax to your av amp or use HDMI to your av amp (that support such function) first and connect from av amp to the TV.
4) this is the problem with astro and hope that they will equalize the level before broadcast. Nothing we can do.
5) It is just a transponder setting. You are not changing satellite. The gain from the transponder varies. Different channel uses different transponder.
Hope that help.
But like what other forumer reported, i seen some distortion sometimes, usually on top of strech mode i use TV zoom function to strech further so wont be able to see the distortion on the top edge.
Btw, i'm using HDMI, can even see the distortion on top edge, anybody have any idea what's the problem? thx
Yes, in my 42" LG i had that too when i selected the Just Scan display setting but when I select 16:9 display, it goes away.
i know that when we watch HD channel, 16:9 mode is the way to go.
how about when in SD mode? if you choose 16:9, i think all the things that you see will be "fatter" right?
thx
hmmm, ok bro thanks for the info. 16:9 on HD looks fine in my TV.
Just that in SD channel, 16:9 looks a bit weird.
