The 'toggle aspect ratio' button on the remote control is not working.
Any one any idea?
Bcos for not HD chanel we need to change back the layout/aspect ratio
*
aspect ratio button is currently the future service...
it only will be enable when new firmware/software upgrade... sweat.gif
so, what can we just do now is wait and see when astro will upgrade byond software...

QUOTE(twL @ Jan 1 2010, 04:37 PM)
i tried to set 720p and compare with the setting of 1080i,
my answer is 1080i is still the best quality for me,
not same as what other forumers said,
720p is the best,
is it because of tv(i am using hd ready tv only) or because i am not watching 'always move' programme like sport channels?
*
My TV (Panny TX-32LE8MK) also looks good when i set byond output to 1080i....
but when i set it to 720p, it became a bit blurry and picture not so sharp.... sad.gif

Sign on astro centre on 4th Jan 2010
5th Jan still no T&C ppl call
then call CS on the 6th morning
7th afternoon T&C ppl called
8th installer called and confirm 9th 11am

OK, as confirmed, they come in today 9th 11:30am
installation took around 30 minutes, change everything, dish, cables, decoder and remote control. Then the installer contact CS to activate my new sim, just 2-4 minutes CS called back n everything is done.

Location: Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

I really hope that in future time, astro byond will make come back for the Video Mosaic functions that already absolute since 2006 if i'm not mistaken...

Starhub cable and DirectTV also have that functions...

I planned to buy component cable for my astro byond...
should i choose monster cable tongue.gif or just cheap one that was selling in Giant - (if i'm not mistake, the price that I saw yesterday not more than RM50) ??
since component was analog signal, not digital like HDMI... maybe the cable quality will make difference?

* just wanna try whether my component output was having problem or not like others here talking about it...

QUOTE(TVSPY @ Jan 10 2010, 04:00 PM)
Why?

If you can use HDMI and Digital audio coax there is no need to even bother using component cables. Those calming the picture quality is better on SD are wrong and simply haven't set their TV's up correctly. The only difference I see is a slightly more saturated colour but no difference in actual picture quality.

by using component you will not get HD quality and you can only get 5.1 by using the digital audio coax. PLus now you have to change TV inputs to watch HD and SD channel. Do you really want to do that?

I think a lot of people have issues with their TV set up rather then the decoder. I know I spent quite a bit of time ensuring all my menu settings in my Sony TV and Home theater where set correctly before it worked properly for me.
*
Ok, thanks for ur explaination...
if not, i will just waste my money to buy component cable... notworthy.gif
FYI, i'm just using Panny 32" inch HD-ready TV... Bought about June last year (2009)...

QUOTE(auronthas @ Jan 10 2010, 04:14 PM)
Yeah, I concur with TVSPY's statement, as long as you configure your TV setting, aspect ratio correctly, I can watch both HD and SD via HDMI without difficulties, just the SD is at 4:3 with pillar box(actual picture size/quality); HD well fit into entire LCD wide TV screen at 16:9
*
I set my output for SD channel to "stretch"...,
I don't feel comfortable when watching TV in pillarbox... but for letterbox, it's not the problem for me...
maybe my mind has set like that since I have seen so many movies/drama in letterbox format...
probably since i still small kids... sweat.gif

Added on January 10, 2010, 5:27 pmAnd other questions, for the coaxial digital cable, it's that I still can use my older white-red RCA stereo audio cable...
it is because i see that the socket are same with digital coaxial...
or maybe need special cable for it...
I planned to get the home theatre... but just a basic one lah... Philips.. price about RM1300 something...
it has 2 digital input... Optical and coaxial...

QUOTE(azrin_kiko @ Jan 10 2010, 09:10 PM)
But Malaysian movies can be encoded to HD as they use film instead of digital. And I noticed that some production houses like Opera Klasik and MediaHustler is "HD Ready" as noticed newer dramas and telemovies has pillarbox that fits 16:9 aspect ratio. I don't know if they have already encoded their telemovies and dramas into HD for future broadcasts. At least we can watch malaysian movies on HD some point in the future... And millions of $$ is needed to upgrade their broadcast system...
*
hopefully one day all Free Tv in Malaysia will become HD...
I saw live Juara lagu at TV3 just now,
OMG... the PQ was so .... shakehead.gif.

I think for Opera classic, they have been 16:9 since 1990's..
because i saw their older drama and telemovie in 1990's.., it already become letterbox when shown on local TV...

QUOTE(AstInst @ Jan 10 2010, 09:40 PM)
Having seen this elsewhere in the world the cost of upgrading the cameras and the production facility is actually the cheapest part. The cost of HD production per hour is nearly 3 times that of SD due to the extra visible detail. Any broadcaster moving to HD has to retrain all their staff and production standards have to increase to that of a hollywood movie and thats not cheap.

Sets have to be rebuilt, makeup artists retrained, camera men retrained, audio engineers retrained, I could go on and on.

Once the production has been made the editing of the HD and the 5.1 takes about 3 times longer, not due to file sizes or anything like that (HD equipment is as fast a SD these days), but due to the level of detail and getting it right for us to watch. The guys at RTM most probably are still working in mono!!!!

Astro promised some local production this year, it will be interesting to compare the production quality in HD compared to other channels.
*
Yes, i have read about it somewhere where they planned to broadcast the final of reality show "fantasia academy" in HD format.... smile.gif

If i'm not mistaken, in HK, most of TVB Jade program actually shoot in HD, isn't it? Not just drama, but game show, concert etc...
even their news and breakfast show (Good morning HK i think) also shoot in HD.... sweat.gif

and i think, based on your statement astinst, we're actually really far away to migrating for HDTV... (I mean Free TV, for Astro, I salute.. it's a really good start when they launch the astro byond... icon_idea.gif )

TVB can shoot their show in HD because it can sell to whole world, ROI is short. Bit if RTM/TV3 shoot the show in HD, their show can sell to which country...  sweat.gif

But when TVB production reaches malaysia, it's still will be in 576i (4:3) SDTV.... blush.gif
even they shoot in HD....

I have just tried connecting my byond using component output to my panny LCD...
Im just using the bundled Composite+RCA Audio cable (the yellow, red and white RCA cable)..,
Yellow I connected to Green colour connector
White to Blue or black colour connector
and Red to red colour connector...

And surpriseingly, all the SD Channel (i repeat, SD Channels).., the PQ was a bit good than connecting via HDMI.., but for HD channels, many lost in PQ, it became a bit blurry...

some pictures :

I read in some forums, you just need RM50 and RM80 to register new astro... biggrin.gif
compare to first batch subscriber that need to pay 1.5k ++ to register in 1996....
my uncle also pay RM899 + RM100 for installation I think in 2000 if i;m not mistaken...
now, his decoder already damaged...

yes... u can use it..
but better buy the real component cable...
i'm just do that for testing my component output whether is was ok or not...
but fortunately, everything fine... does not encounter any problem in my component output like other here arguing about it... notworthy.gif
just feel a bit dissapointed because component does not output HD signal... even 576P signal...
