i am watching b.yond HD using Avermedia HD card, but cant record of course
QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Jan 20 2010, 04:34 PM)
Ok, I have a few questions. If I'm using HDMI, sometimes the TV will fail to show picture/sound. If switch to composite, okay. Had to switch off mains and switch back on. I think few users here also have that problem. Is it a problem with the decoder?

Another question: Can implement feature to allow HTPC owners to integrate their HTPC with the b.yond? I'm having a hard time because I have a Dell 24" Full HD (biggest screen in my room) + 5.1 kit setup on my HTPC but there's apparently no way to take full potential of the setup. BlackMagic Intensity Pro doesn't support HDCP and AVerMedia HD DVR supports HDCP but cannot support 50Hz mode b.yond box output.
No guarantee. You sure 831 base on 811? I dun have sports package, but see the EPG guide different only?
Do you have a Blu-Ray player or plan to get one? If you plan to use/Have BD as well get Full HD set will get slightly better picture from BD movies that have 1080p encoding. If size matters instead, 50" will be okay.

1) no
2) the only way to get dolby 5.1 is via a digital audio connection to you amp.

Connecting via HMDI only sends a stereo signal.

Hi bro TVSPY, thanks for the info. i thought HDMI can get dolby 5.1.

Did Byond disable DD 5.1 via HDMI? Else you should be able to get DD 5.1 via if you connect the HDMI to AVR then via AVR HDMI out to TV.

HDMI goes directly to your TV. This is for Best Video quality.
For audio, get a Digital Coaxial cable and connect it from B.yond box to your AVR/Home theater system.
Most TV (Plasma/LCD/LED) do not really give one a true DD5.1 effect.
Mine is connected this way (so sad B.yond box do not have optical out) and connected to an Onkyo 7.1 AVR.
The HDMIs to AVR is only a 'pass thru' because true Audio for DD need to be 'processed' therefore be 'assigned'
at input at AVR.

With other equipment such as Playstation 3 (for Blu-Ray Discs), High Definition Media Player (TVIX) and now, Astro's B.yond,
most TV now have only 2 HDMI input. What I did for mine situation is to use the AVR's 3 HDMI input to 1 output to act like a
pass thru 'switcher'. Still got to assign each audio input to the AVR.
Hope that helps.
Awesome.

Cheers

Added on January 20, 2010, 10:32 pmOh! I forgot.......switch off the TV's volume. There is a slight delay...thus have am 'echo' sounding effect.
Do enjoy your AVR's DD 5.1

Its confirm decoder problem. I took mine to the decoder service office in Puchong and changed it (installer said will came next day, but since the office near my house, i just hopped over and exchanged it). Took another 2-3 hours to allow for Astro card to be paired and activated with new decoder. Its working fine now.

HD Ready = 720p/1080i. Full HD=1080p. HD Ready more than enough if you're only going to use for b.yond. But if you're going to also use PS3/XBox360/HTPC/Blu-Ray player/HD Media player, 1080P is a better investment.

NB: if you are not using Digital Audio Coax you must set this to “Stereo” or you will hear no audio on HD channels. Also note that you will not get Dolby 5.1 unless you use the Digital Audio coax. We do not send Dolby 5.1 over the HDMI cable.

I doubt you can do that with only speaker since Astro decoder will transmit the digital sound to AV receiver using coxial cable.

Well.. All this while I didn't realise they didn't enable the DD 5.1 over HDMI. I just thought TV no sound when set to DD 5.1 because the TV can't decode DD 5.1 stream. blush.gif

Don't think so, F1 normally will be broadcast in Star Sport. Just don't want to put high expectation. ESPN HD also uncertain when it will be available, so what u expect more?  hmm.gif
But the certain thing is, World Cup will be in HD. Waiting for that day.
*
thats better be true. a lot of people (me) will be considerablly piss off watching world cup in that pirate-vcd level SD picture after going all the trouble buying LCD tv and installing byond and all.

For confirmation, Astro have come out with promo on world cup in HD ?

but y the league cup semifinal match man city vs man u did not telecast in channel 831?

i have read somewhere that SD and HD deals between astro and the broadcasters are not the same..
thats why not all of the programming on 811 is available in HD such as Carling Cup and WWE Rwa HD
But EPL is almost confirmed to be available in HD but probably not all the matches. Depends on what match the broadcasters in the UK are showinG in HD. Usually the games at 845pm n 130 am on Saturdays are in HD and all the matches on Sunday and Monday and midweek.
Dont forget Champions League is also coming. So depends on SkySports and ESPN UK matches.

There is a difference, for digital, you need optical or coaxial.
(And reading the Astro B.yond connecting Sony AVR/TV post, it is necessary for dolby 5.1)

I recommend just getting the ones sold at ACE hardware, not so expensive and there is some quality.
*
any rca cable is actually a coaxial cable with rca connectors...coaxial is the type of the cable, rca is the connector type...and any normal 75 ohm cable could carry audio and video signal...digital or even analog without problems on short runs...for longer runs, have to get 'proper' cables...

http://www.highdefforum.com/cables-connect...ial-vs-rca.html

luckily Beyond uses coaxial...which means for long runs it'd be easier to get digital coaxial with rca ends (which can be easliy DIY with just RG-6 cables, F-connectors and F to RCA end adapter)...coz a longer run optical cable would be very expensive indeed

but try to get those so-called made already made digital coaxial coz they're probably of better quality...

yupp...1080i is interlaced signal...which means in the progressive realm, this will contain a lower number of lines than of the progressive 720p...this video below could surely explain better (unless that guy there is BS-ing us all...lol!) -

remember, it's not really the number of lines...it's the type of signal and the number of lines appearing at a certain time...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-JXfyvlPh0

to me...anything HD...better to stick to progressive..which is why 1080p will always remain the highest resolution for HD now (...just forget Red Cam's 2k or 4k for now - that's not for home owners yet - that retail digital cinema's area smile.gif)

still, trust your eyes and experiment...on my 40" HD-ready tv...i see no difference between 720p and 1080i...since my tv can do progressive and the highest resolution is 720p only - ive set Beyond to 720po. But maybe my tv sucks...haha...

Really really hate the Astro beyond ad in Lowyat forum....everytime I move my mouse over them it just pops open. Irritating.
