http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...-my-future.htmlARSENE WENGER has told his Arsenal players they have 18 months to convince him to stay on as manager for the rest of his life.
The Frenchman's current contract runs out at the end of next season.
And Wenger, 60, has admitted he is taking his time before making a decision on his future.
The Gunners have not won any silverware since lifting the FA Cup in 2005.
But Wenger, who took over in September 1996, insisted trophies will not help make his mind up.
His main concern is the club remains in good hands.
He told French TV if he signs a new contract it will be for the long-term and he would not look to work elsewhere.
Wenger added: "I am giving myself a bit of time to think.
"What is important is that the club is in good hands, whether they are mine or someone else's.
"Whether I personally leave on a positive or negative note is a little bit less important."
Arsenal are still in the title hunt despite a frustrating 2-2 draw with Everton in blizzard conditions.
They closed the gap on Chelsea to just three points, having played the same number of games as the Premier League leaders.
But the Gunners are sweating over midfielder Denilson.
The Brazilian was carried off after collapsing in the second half and will have an X-ray to determine whether it is linked to the back injury which has troubled him this season.
Wenger said: "Denilson is a little bit mysterious at the moment.
"It's an intercostal problem. We will have to have X-rays.
"He can walk quite normally - we have to see if it is a broken rib or a deeper problem with his lung. I don't know yet if it's related to his back problem. It could be."
After Denilson fell to the ground, Everton almost went 3-1 ahead when Tim Cahill released James Vaughan only for keeper Manuel Almunia to deny him.
While home fans may have wanted Cahill to put the ball into touch, Wenger insisted he was not bothered Everton played on.
He added: "No, I wasn't upset. I said to Denilson afterwards 'If that happens to you, you have to commit a handball.' You cannot ask Everton to stop their counter-attack and not to score."
With Cameroon ace Alex Song away on African Nations Cup duty and Denilson an injury worry, Wenger admitted he may go after a midfielder. The Arsenal boss said: "I'm looking.
"I said many times I have an open eye on the market and, if the right opportunities come up, we will do something. But, at the moment, I must say I'm still only looking."
Wenger also revealed his concerns about losing starlet Fran Merida.
The Spanish midfielder, 19, will be out of contract at the end of the season and can talk to other clubs about a free transfer in the summer.
A host of Spanish clubs are watching Merida with Atletico Madrid leading the chase.
Wenger admitted: "We've not progressed there. I am concerned, yes."
How serious is this? Tactic or for real
