Sunway Education Institutions Rank No 1 For Employability In Asia Bandar Sunway, April 20 ~ The global benchmark for the student experience, the Student Barometer Survey Entry Wave 2014 revealed that institutions in the Sunway Education Group are achieving high student satisfaction for graduate employment. The score for a combined group of students surveyed from Sunway University and Sunway College was the highest out of 15 Asian institutions for ‘Employability’. A high score was also achieved for the Learning Overall experience (highest out of 7 institutions surveyed in Malaysia). ![]() The Survey undertaken by i-graduate, tracked feedback from over 2 million students from 1,400 universities, colleges, schools and government agencies across 30 countries. In Asia, over 32,000 students participated in the Survey. The Survey tracks and compares the decision-making, expectations, perceptions and intentions of students from application to graduation. Education institutions are evaluated across eight scopes which includes decision-making, application process, enquiry to acceptance, arrival and orientation, the learning experience, the living experience, support services and likelihood of recommendation to others. High scores were also achieved in the area of living experience especially in elements such as financial support, safety, and host friends. In the support services area, high scores were given by the students for personal tutors, the graduate school, careers service, and counselling. Under the benchmarking teaching section, the combined group of international students from Sunway University and Sunway College gave the highest score out of 7 institutions in Malaysia for expert lecturers, programme content, quality lecturers, programme organisation, academics’ English, performance feedback, good teachers, research, and marking criteria. Guy Perring, Director of Client Services, Asia, for i-graduate said, “One of the most important considerations when it comes to selecting an education institution for both parents and students in Asia, is the ability to secure a job in a globally competitive marketplace. The results for Sunway University and Sunway College are a powerful testament of how education institutions can integrate employability into the curricula; thus securing their students’ futures.” Senior Executive Director, Sunway Education Group, Dr Elizabeth Lee said that, “We are absolutely delighted with the results of the Survey. The results provide a welcome affirmation of the high quality of our educational delivery and the overall learning experience of our students.” |

Sunway University Receives Top Ratings by Global University Rating and Ranking Organization The QS World university ranking and rating organization, regarded as one of the most authoritative of its kind across the world, has awarded Sunway University an overall rating of four-stars out of a maximum of five-stars in its 2015/2016 QS Stars results. This rating by a globally recognised organization places Sunway University on a par with long established international institutions. Receiving individual five-star ratings in the “teaching”, “employability” and “facilities” categories, Sunway University has proven that it provides quality education at the same high standards as some of the best universities in the world. For teaching, Sunway University has the same rating as MIT and The University of Cambridge while for facilities it now has the same rating as institutions such as Princeton University, Stanford University, California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Columbia University, Cornell University, The University of Pennsylvania and New York University. For employability, Sunway University is rated at the same level as institutions such as MIT, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, The Australian National University, The University of Liverpool and The University of Michigan. In the two core areas of teaching and employability, Sunway University scored high in overall student satisfaction and satisfaction with teaching; and highest scores were indicated on graduate employment and career service support respectively. For facilities, it was rated high in the various sections of the learning environment encompassing infrastructure, facilities and student societies. “We are indeed very proud of this achievement. It will be a great motivation for us to continue in our mission to nurture all-round individuals and devote ourselves to the discovery, advancement, transmission and application of knowledge,” said Professor Graeme Wilkinson, Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University. “Emulating the world’s top universities, our vision of one day becoming the ‘Harvard of the East’ now seems to be achievable,” added Professor Wilkinson. The QS rating of a university is based on various indicators to evaluate universities in the core areas of teaching, research, employability and internationalisation measured against specific thresholds. The indicators include overall student satisfaction, satisfaction with teaching, staff to student ratio, research citations per faculty, campus employer presence, the numbers of international students and staff, and international research collaborations. The ratings relate to the individual institution’s performance and are not dependent on the performance of other institutions. The QS Stars rating is the second global recognition Sunway University has received this year. In April, the Student Barometer Survey Entry Wave 2014 revealed that institutions in the Sunway Education Group are achieving high student satisfaction for graduate employment. The score for a combined group of students surveyed from Sunway University and Sunway College was the highest out of 15 Asian institutions surveyed for ‘Employability’. A high score was also achieved for the Learning Overall experience (highest out of 7 institutions surveyed in Malaysia). |

Sunway Property named Property Company for 2015 in Asia KUALA LUMPUR: Sunway Bhd’s property unit Sunway Property has been named the “Property Company of the Year 2015 – Asia” by readers of World Finance, a leading UK-based financial magazine. Sunway said on Wednesday the World Finance Real Estate award was to recognise its high standards in design, quality, innovation and sustainable practices. Readers of World Finance were invited to vote for the nominated organisations and projects across different continents, followed by internal research for final deliberation by the World Finance award selection panel. “The accolade underscores Sunway’s commitment to building for posterity through its unique build-own-operate business model, which ensures the continued and lifelong growth of its communities,” it said. Sunway Property has a portfolio of successful and internationally acclaimed properties across Malaysia, Singapore, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and India. “We are delighted to award Sunway the title of ‘Property Company of the Year, Asia, 2015’,” said the World Finance judging panel. The panel had stated Sunway’s commitment towards building a first class infrastructure in Malaysia, was helping to transform the country into one of Asia’s leading economies. “At the same time, the company has been steadfast in its determination towards social development, focusing on both education and healthcare in particular. While the competition across Asia was fierce, Sunway’s leading role in rebuilding Malaysia makes it a worthy winner of this year’s award.” In Malaysia, Sunway has created three value-generating hubs spanning some 4,000 acres across the country, transforming the way people live, learn, work and play in a safe, healthy and connected environment within the integrated townships of Sunway Resort City, Sunway City Ipoh, and Sunway Iskandar. Its first flagship township, Sunway Resort City, is a transformation of a derelict tin-mining land into a world-class township that garners 42 million visitations annually. Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah said the group was honoured to have been recognised as a real estate leader in Asia. “It is a testament that we are on the right-track to pursue sustainable and participatory growth alongside our communities. We will continue to work to enrich the lives of our communities we serve,” he said. |

International Symposium on Precision Medicine: The Future of Population Health This unique meeting brings together leading medical researchers from the UK and the USA to discuss the implications of recent developments in personal and precision medicine for future healthcare in Kuala Lumpur, and SE Asia more generally. We can all envisage a future in which medicines and prevention strategies are tailored for specific patients and populations. This approach will bring increases in clinical efficacy, improvements in treatment safety, reduction in harmful side effects, and health economic benefits. However, notwithstanding early successes in certain cancers and in very rare genetic disorders, most developments in therapy have not been not “personalized” in this way. For this reason, the field is actively engaged in precision medicine research (PMR). PMR involves understanding the genetic bases for disease, and the underlying pathways of rare and common disorders. Examples of the methodologies being applied in PMR range from smartphone-associated technologies to whole genome sequencing; and from very deep molecular characterisation of individual patients to stem cell transplantation and gene therapy. Informative and reproducible PMR leads to the next challenge: the translation of research advances into the clinic bringing health benefits in a cost-effective way. The symposium, which is jointly organised by members of Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, Brasenose College, University of Oxford, and Sunway University, features distinguished experts in the areas of precision and personalised medicine from renowned research institutions such as the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, Columbia University, the J Craig Venter Institute, California, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Speakers will relate their topics to current and emerging healthcare issues such as the rapid rise in diabetes, cancer and other age-related illnesses. Presentations will also cover the recent developments and future potential of particular techniques and therapies. It will be co-hosted by Sunway University, Sunway Medical Centre and the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences. |
