I am a user of ASW610 for the last 1 year. I also have SVS PB12 Plus, SVS SB12 NSD and Rhythmik F12 as the most recent addition. All different subs with different characteristics. I would like to give some opinion on these subs performance since I have been listening to them almost every day. So I am very familiar with their sonic characteristics. My HT room is very small 12 X 12 feet. I have been comparing these subs all these while. All of them are very GOOD! They differs only in terms of SPL capability and also musicality. If you ask me to rank these subs according to subjective listening in my setup , these are my preferences:In my small HT room,
In terms of SPL ( and I am not a SPL guy, I listen in moderate volume ),
1) it is obvious PB12 Plus is the champion. Superb subs for the money I paid. Able to produce lots of deep, ear and chest pressuring/thumping , bass.
2) To me F12 and ASW10 come second in terms of SPL in my small room. ASW10 may be the smallest among them, but it can really kick out lots tactile bass
3) For some reason, the SB12NSD is too gentle , less energetic, much less oomph when compared to the rest.
In terms of who goes the lowest,
Again nobody can touch the PB12 Plus. Its a tie between F12 and ASW10 according to my ears in my small room.
In terms of musicality;
1) asw10 is the most musical in my HT room. It may not have the SPL capability of the big brothers, but it compensates by producing very pleasant tight musical bass/LFE. This will be most obvious when I listen to concerts at moderates level of -18 to 20 dB. in my AVR.
2) Again PB12 plus and F12 comes seconds in this aspect. PB12+ may be ported but it is really capable to produce tight musical bass during concert scenes.
3) Now SB12 NSD is neither here nor there. I feel it is just average in musicality. It just doesn't give me the toe tapping feeling.
OK. Now for the setup using various combination of subs:
1) one good subwoofer in a small HT room like mine is good and very enjoyable for almost any programs ( movies, concerts, musics )
2) two good subwoofer is even better in terms of smoothness, tactile feeling of LFE building up surrounding you while watching LFE scenes
3) three good subwoofer is mind blowing ! Trust me in this! This is my current setup. I cannot find words to describe the feeling. Bass /LFE surrounds you from all sides ( left, right, front , back, top and bottom ). They envelopes you . All my subwoofers just dissapear into thin air. My favorite movie with this 3 woofers setup is Dark Knight. Really good. And mind you that I watch movies with rather moderate volume of only -22 to 20 dB in my AVR ( all speakers calibrated to 75 db incluidng all subwoofers indicvidually).
I stop at 3 woofers for the time being ) and ( I think I cannot go back again to dual subwoofers setup ) and may try 4 subs ( eventhough mine are all different types) once I am free in the future.
OK. Here comes the catch. In order for me to actually realize the above impressions on all my subwoofers,they must be used and calibrated with the ASEQ 1. This is really the most important piece of equipment that I have acquired in my setup. Without it, the LFE will not be so syiok! Something is always missing or not quite right. Recently I casually tried the AM8033S . Also very good and value for money and able to produce very enjoyable/smooth LFEs in my HT setup.
In conclusion, ASW10 is a sweet little subs which is value for money ( I bought new RM2400 more than a year ago), capable of producing the most musical bass in my small HT room compared to my other subs. For me ASW10 is a keeper. If your have a small room like mine , 2 of these will make you very happy. If one is going after high SPL, then you have to get big ported boxes. My PB12+ may be a little bit overkill in my small 12 X 12 room. But ,I really love it ! It adds lots of oomph in LFE scenes. F12 is superb for its price , SPL and musical capability in a sealed configuration. 2 of these in a small room like mine will be sweet. SB12 NSD is a bit of a letdown in my setup.
Cheers
