From my understanding;

There used to be a group of people besides the NPC that use to wander the place. Among these people there are a man and a woman which falls in love during their wandering period in the world. The woman then "move on" as to maybe her wishes is for "love". He promised himself to wait for the woman to 'revisit" the world but sadly she already moved on, he then despise the world and create Angel Player program in which he uses to turn himself into a NPC and with it come enable the reset feature in which when "LOVE" is detected again the program will execute an automated erased program to turn all NPC into Shadows and consume all Players, in which consumed player is/are turn into NPC, just like he is. Then the world is reset, the initiator of these reset program is deemed to be Hinata and Yui.

yeah, im also confused with kanade too...why suddenly yuri told otonashi that kanade is not angel when in the 1st place she called her angel?wtf is this?plot twisted??damn..
