Hi, I am wanting to install a decent HT system in my bedroom (living area roughly 4m x 4m ) at a cost of around RM1K.
I want to be able to play both Astro B.yond (registered but not yet received but best to be future compatible) plus my Xtreamer Media Centre (which has both HDMI and digital optical output) through the system. I also have a LG 42PG60 Plasma TV (has AV/Component/HDMI in and composite AV out out but no optical).
I am not too bothered about brand but perhaps would prefer those systems that had the smaller type of speaker (rather than those very tall ones) as it is just for my bedroom.
Anyone have any recommendations that would suit such a setup as this? TIA!

Well, firstly, its not that easy to find a HT that has a Digital in for Sub 1K
Most have Coaxial in for Digital unlike your Xtreamer which needs a Toslink cable.

One of the forummers found a HT that I think is also just nice for you that has a Digital in that Decodes DTS and DD from it:
Samsung HT-Z220, it goes for RM850.

But if you ask me, you can get a lower end Pioneer AVR system with pioneer speakers going for RM1250 if you look hard enough....of course that not including an active sub box.

Beware of Panasonic brand that has a Digital in and DTS logo, but doesn't decode DTS though those ports. Just to make sure...bring along your Xtreamer to the shop to test it out...make sure your media has DTS sound encoded...its better than buying the wrong stuff.
I heard some Philips soundbar also same, have Digital port but dun decode DTS thorough it. You have been warned!...

Thanks for the info - will look into your recommendations and steer clear of the brands you mention. I am totally new to this stuff so it is much appreciated!

yeah...as long as you dun buy the wrong stuff..bring along your Xtreamer, Optical cable and media with DTS and DD encoded.
If you are serious at buying the stuff and the salesman also serious in selling it, he will let you try..

OK thanks - for something like the Samsung you mention with only one optical In would I need something like a Toslink splitter to connect both the Xtreamer and B.yond receiver audio to it?
