My doter's rabbit is having a problem. We have only had her for about 2 months and have been feeding her alfalfa hay with some occational treats (fruits and carrot). The rabbit's health has been fine all this while. I must admit I never really pay attention to the rabbit, as its my doter that feeds and cares for it. Anyway I just noticed that one of her paw just developed a deformity. Fur on the first 2 digits have fallen off and the skin is very wrinkly and looks yellow/dried up. There is no visible scars/bites or puncture wound. The "thumb" seems to have shrivelled up and cannot move. And the "condition" seems to be moving up the arm. Will take the rabbit to the Vet, but does anyone here know what the problem is? Do you think it could be fungal?

The rabbit is indoors and goes out everyday to the garden for exercise and to munch on the grass (Manila)if outdoors can get all sorts of infections. yesterday saw this rabbit they selling at carrefour the front paws red in color.....looks bad but the seller says it is okay.....hate this kinda shops. Do you think it could be fungal? Took the rabbit to the Vet and using a skin scrap under the microscope, determined the problem to be a mite infestation. The mites usually occur in cats and dogs, I have neither of these so I at a loss as to how the rabbit got this. Maybe from the grass.... Anyway the vet gave the rabbit a jab to kill the mites and the rabbit will need a followup jab in 2 weeks time to ensure all the mites and eggs are destroyed. So that's one mystery solved.Jason Jason |
