QUOTE(decentdevil @ Aug 14 2010, 01:44 AM)
I need help ….
Recently as per my earlier post, my gf brought back another male rabbit to accommodate her old male rabbit.
As the new rabbit, which is 20% bigger in size attempt to regain his territory, it keep humping the elder rabbit.
Per forumers feedback, this is a normal behavior. We let both of them staying in the same cage hoping they could blend in and stay together.

It has been 3 weeks they were staying together in the same cage. Occasionally, I do see the bigger rabbit chase, hump or light bite on the older rabbit..
I just treated that as a sign of territory marking behavior, or playing together
Today, to my surprise, I noticed the elder rabbit’s testicle was badly bitten.. it definitely the act of the new rabbit.
We have decided to put the new rabbit into a smaller separate cage to isolate them until we find a solution …
Anyone care to shed some light on how we could resolve this problem?

We know, a visit to vet is a must, but what is next?

bearing in mind that i have no experience bonding rabbits, i have heard that neutering both rabbits might help. however, even so i do know of cases where even after neutering, the rabbits still dont get along. personality clash i guess.

maybe some of these articles can help you:

my rabbit love to hide her legs...hmm..i think that is her way to beg or act cute...when she do that..her body become round as a ball..not sure your rabbit behave like that or not..i notice my rabbit eats more now..i got her one month ago..i heard forum said rabbit is like fish..they eat even they are full.. is it true?

if vincentwee is for real, i think he is a sadist. it takes a very "unusual" person to take such joy out of treating a sweet harmless creature that way.

a lot? it's quite normal for rabbits' fur to gugur "reasonably". brushing the fur helps to release the loose strands before they get a chance to fly around the house. since you are allergic, best get someone to help u with it. if the gugur is reasonable, i doubt it has anything to do with the diet.

if not because i watch youtube video....search for cat eat rabbit...i wont be so protective about my rabbit
maybe u never experience your rabbit escape their playpan b4 ..u wont understand that feeling...by punish them is to hope they learn...but sadly..rabbit cant learn like dog or monkey..they brainless.....

i already give up train my rabbit not to escape from its playpan..wat i do now is place her in a non escape zone (my garden) where the earth is balance...compare previously...certain area is unbalance (tat where she escape..she willing to suffer the pain by squeezing her own body and try escape from the small gap)...

i only enjoy chase my rabbit every night... she know im playing with her too... sometimes i tired...i just let her out..she will run by herself...as if im chasing her..

i bought woods/tree from ikano for her to bite..so far,she don bite...strange...the mineral stone she also dont bite..strange...until now,i never see her teeth b4...

vincent, stop beating your rabbit. or your dog or random cats for that matter.

vincentwee, U are not really know how to take care a rabbit.. my suggestion to you, don't ever think after u beat your rabbit it will listen to you. For your information, rabbit will remember who ever beat it clearly. If u keep on do like this, it is very hard for your rabbit to obey you as master.
Rabbit is not a dog. U cannot rare a rabbit using a way same like dog. Rabbit is a soft and kind personality animal. U must have patient to your rabbit. DON"T BEAT IT ANYMORE. Violent cannot solve your problem.
If u keep on beat it, u are making a miserable life for your rabbit. Why are u do so? I believe u think to bring it home because u have a kind heart like all the rabbit owner does.
I hope u can love your rabbit with a right way. DON"T HURT YOUR RABBIT!

I think you get the whole damn idea wrong here. You cannot compare rabbits with dogs/cats or humans. Rabbits are PREY animals, therefore they have to HIDE their whole life to avoid getting eaten. You wonder why your rabbit shivers in open space? Thats because she met with cats that gonna EAT her before! If you know there is some monster out there to eat you anytime, do you like open spaces?

Imagine you are trap in an island inside the cage. Your "master" put you in an open field with cages, with wild huge dinosaurs waiting to eat you up. Dinosaurs have been shaking your cage for weeks when you are asleep. Your master is not always around all the time to protect you. And you got no weapon to protect yourself. Wouldn't you want to run away and hide in a safer place? Say at least a house, cave or a hole? And when you try to escape, your owner gives you a b**** slap and make you scream and scolding you to "remember not to escape again or else you'll be eaten by dinosaurs".

Your rabbit has brains like all rabbits do, they are not stupid! They are just trying to hide in cover cause they don't feel secure there. Thats why she always wants to run away from the playpen...and yet you beat her up. WOW. I wonder who's the one brainless now. Remember that rabbits are small and the loud noises can easily scare her away, since they are not sure whether the loud noise is another animal coming to eat them up.

Even if she is out in the open, you need to provide her with a shelter, like a cardboard box or a plastic igloo from the pet shops for shelter, reduce the sudden noises and the heat. Make her feel safe so that she wont escape and you won't have to beat her up again. Think like an adult, think out from the box.

Your rabbit is trying to be conservative, protective and unsure about her surroundings, thats why she isn't showing you her teeth. In a way, she doesn't really trust you and the environment yet. She thinks that everything around the place is dangerous and fishy. Next time think before you act lah...think in your rabbit's perspective.

i already stop beat her long time ago.dont think beat is effective.as she not scared.

when she escape her playpan, she will sniff n enjoy roaming around.i think she don like to be "cage"..haha..

anyway,i don displin her anymore.i just make sure the playpan cant be escape by putting at even earth and lastly, feed her lots of hay and pellets.....try to make her grow bigger and fatter.in that way, even give her uneven earth, she cant escape as too big and fat.

vincent, it's not just about the beating! chasing your rabbit with a broom as a game is silly. you chasing her is scaring the daylights out of her! my boy has been living with me for more than a year, when he chases me, he is playing but i would never chase him cos i am sure he will get very very scared.

trust is VERY VERY important! you need to deal with her gently and gain her trust. the way you are going, the chance of her bonding with you is zero. she is NOT stupid. rabbits are not stupid. they are very affectionate and smart (and highly manipulative-hahahaha). if you continue to scare her, you will never have the chance to see how smart she is. for god's sake, everyone on this forum has some experience raising rabbit, we might not be experts, but we can help you out with the basics. but the problem is you simply dont want to listen.

by the way, before you decide to mate your rabbit, read up about it first. no one (well at least on this forum) with let you mate your rabbit with theirs if they are not confident that you have enough knowledge to take care of the mother rabbit and its offsprings. for most of us here, our rabbits are a part of the family-not merely a toy.
