for comgateway, they normally calculate the shipping charges based on weight or the package dimension? i had the viaddress shipped to me before and they calculated based on the dimension weight and the shipping fees were so expensive

No matter ComGateway or Viadress, all shipping companies uses two ways to calculate your shipping fees: actual weight or volumetric weight.

Take mine as example, I shipped my son's toy (a large garbage bin truck) back to Malaysia. The actual weight of the toy is roughly 3.5kg, but the size of the carton is so big that the volumetric weight is 14kg. So the shipping fee will be charged based on 14kg, not 3.5kg. Luckily ComGateway offers me a repack service that they helped to decrease the volumetric weight to 4kg. smile.gif

Hope this explains.

I never use Viaddress before so I cannot comment more. But does Viaddres offer you a repack service?

they do offer repack service. but they seem to choose the largest box to repack all my stuff, causing the shipping fees sky high

Then I have no idea on this. What is the item you're shipping anyway? And which courier service did they use? Mine they used DHL to ship.

I think your problem with high shipping fees maybe because of the volumetric weight of the fishing stool even after repack. And if not mistaken, Fedex's fees is higher than DHL.
