As we know, there are more and more people trying to scam our precious money away by tempting us with cheap prices of games and consoles.
An example of a scam case that happen recently. : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1266067
Even I myself almost fell for that scam, luckily I realise something was wrong and pulled the deal instead.
Don't want your money to be get scammed? Then listen up. Hope this would at least reduce the scam cases on us gamers.
1. Don't be greedy. Most of the scammers (from my experience), They would quote you a very low price to tempt you to buy, however he/ she would give a million excuses to do POSTAGE only.
For example : Seller would ask you where u from?
You would say selangor, then u ask back what about you?
Seller would say (somewhere far away from you), Sabah for example. Then he would suggest postage (duh if not how to scam you?)
You would be very tempted because price is so cheap. 1 act of greed, 'Okay la I bank in to you now'. Then POOF THERE GOES YOUR
MONEY!
Of course, this doesn't apply to everyone who does postage, there are some reputable sellers like PBBSeller and Ilikepanadol who are far away from PJ yet their business is clean and efficient.
2. If possible, DON'T, and I repeat DON'T do postage for expensive stuff such as PS3 and PSP console. The amount of money you would get con is even more.I'm saying, please be smart people, when you see newbie, like just joined yesterday, selling ps3 80gb for rm 850 only but postage, please be smart and just ignore that topic. Don't let greed overcome your rational thinking.
3. If you smell something fishy about the seller, always ask the seller to send you a pic of their items that they are selling. More importantly, request the seller to write on a piece of paper his or her LYN nick and take a pic together with the items for sale.
If the seller keeps refusing to do so, just tell them its okay I won't buy it. Because most of the time, people get conned for things that don't even exist. Probably he or she dont even have what is advertised right?
4. Always get the sellers contact no. And better yet, call the seller in person to talk to him/her. Most of the time, the scammers won't answer their phone, they would say 'Im busy now SMS please' Then when u try and call again, he/she wont answer the phone. What kinda person can reply an sms but cant even pick up a phone to say a few words?
5.Also, When COD, please pick a safe place to do so. Places like dark alley/ corner should be avoided just to prevent yourself from getting robbed/raped.One of the better places would be at shopping malls, place where there are more people than just the 2 of you. If you're worried about safety, you can always call a friend to accompany you.
So when you realise something is not right, like, seller not answering phone, or seller OFF THE PHONE, Don't make that deal, just to be safe ya.
These are just a few ways to help out us fellow gamers here especially newbies as I am really sick of these A-holes trying to scam our money.
This is just base on my personal experience, feel free to comment. Thank you for reading my long winded post.
