wah so mah fan 1 ah, can you tell me any better choice i might be able to consider ah ? i got a teeth which i dont want to lost, its still there, but no longer can be filled, asked few dentists, they all say pull it ...

It really depends on the extent of caries. If it's subgingival with less than half the coronal structure left, then it will indicated for extraction. That kind of tooth is deemed hopeless or have poor prognosis. Based on your descriptions and assuming the dentists' diagnosis are correct, then you are better off having the tooth taken out.

There's a procedure which we called TRANSPLANTATION. Where a sound lower 3rd molar (aka wisdom tooth) is used to replace the extracted lower molar. It has been reported that the success rate is quite high. But it all comes down to the operator's skills and knowledge to succesfully perform transplantation. My suggestion is to ask your dentist for a specialist referral.

Not all extracted sites are suitable for implant placement. There are many factors involved that could indicate or contraindicate for implant. Seems like TS is rather put off by the price...

by the way narf03, just FYI. losing the 2nd molar is not the end of the world. Many ppl are still able to chew comfortably with just the 1st molar. though u will feel that the chewing force diminishes slightly, but generally it is not as bad as u think. trust me

oh btw, the best specialist that u should ask to be referred to is called an endodondist, if you are interested about transplantation. let the endodontist assess your wisdom tooth and the 2nd molar, see what's his opinion. smile.gif

My sincere advice is don't always trust the info on net. It's might be true but you may not interprate it correctly. And just take some ppl advice as a general guidance. Do remember they are not professional. They might be misled by other ppl. I always believe that everything quality comes with a price, of course some will charge slightly higher for the brand like computer. But remember, dental implant is not something to be consider lightly. You go to the wrong clinic, you got the poor implant or service, you are bound to have even more problems. You might have all your money paid down the drain. I can't disclose all the info to you here. But my sincere advice is choose the right one. If you can't afford, go for the alternative that you can.

@C-Note
I totally don't agree with you. Dentist is no easy work. They have to pay for the course fee which is no cheapo stufff, plan the treatment well, deliver it to the patient and many other things.... with all those factors considered, I don't think dentist is earning bloody hell lots of money. It's always easy to condemn, but if you were in their shoes, you will know it better. No easy work. Just compare to Lawyers. They charge as they talk to you or just write on paper. And it is not cheap. But why? Think for yourself, what you do when they struggle to get in to the course, struggle to graduate, struggle to become a qualified lawyer? I think they can earn easier than a dentist. But they deserve it for all the sweats and tears they have paid before. And if you are looking to be felthy rich, don't become lawyer or dentist or doctor. Become a businessman. Become like those who can earn millions, without doing anything or by just shaking their legs.

I really hope that you will rephrase that. Though sounded too good to be true finding a professional in the net giving free consultation, but plz do not rule out that professionals do surf the net on casual basis. and really there's nothing wrong getting a 3rd person opinion regarding their uncertainties. In some circumstances, a dentist would even tell the patient to consult their own family members or friend to clear their doubt prior to some procedures. Patients have the rights to choose to know what they believe, and that includes asking around before they choose which ever treatment they decide. after all, they still have to be thoroughly assessed by the dentist before deciding if the treatment concerned should be proceeded, a good dentist would do that

oh and thanks for standing by the dentists, really appreciate it smile.gif

Yes, you are right. I miss that, it's my mistake. I should rephrase that as "Not all of them are professional".
But sometimes it's a bit too difficult to determine which information is actually from the professional.
I just want to help TS. Hope he make the right decision. May God bless you, TS.
Thanks for correcting my mistake.
By the way, quite curious to know if you are a dentist?

well yeah, u can do crowning for all those affected teeth. but that's an overkill for such a small problem.

Assuming that your above description is correct, there are only 2 possibilities that give rise to your friend's problem. it's either the dentist did a crappy job or your friend's oral hygiene sucks big time. but which ever the probability is, she's better off just redo the fillings, but this time, get it done by a good dentist.

coz think about it. let's say one crown = ~RM600 (should be more than RM600... i think). 8 crowns = RM600 x 8 = RM4800. but instead, get a good dentist who can do good fillings that goes by RM150 (overcharged i know, but for an aesthetically pleasing and sustainable filling though). so for 8 teeth = RM150 x 8 = RM1200. plus a few oral hygiene counseling sessions = a few hundred bux? u will end up spending less than 1/3 of the RM4800 just to get something as equally good in total.

but again, it's a must to let the dentist does his/her examination and assessment prior to the final treatment planning.

u want one of the best in KL? go to KLIDC. Dr Mohamad Muzafar Hamirudin is your man. http://www.klidc.com.my/team.htm

P/S: no that's not me. and i don't work there
