just curios if any Apartment/ Condo is ready for ASTRO Byond? Astro has rejected my application and stated need to wait for 18-24 months for the readiness since my apartment equip with centralise dish... but what i tought will be longer unless they are any solution to overcome this. too bad.... sad.gif

kindly share in how astro can overcome this in your apartment or condo that using centralise dish?

its been discussed in the other B.yond topic & it was also clearly stated in the B.yond FAQ astro doesnt offer a solution as yet for condo/apartment with centralized dish...why u sign up for it i dont know...

Dish & decoder needs to be replaced, and there's also suggestion that the cabling needs to be replaced as well..astro needs to work with property managements to replace the centralized dish & the decoder for each household unit..from what i understand, the current decoder doesnt work with the new dish.

U & i both may be anxious bout B.yond but maybe not everyone else in ur apartment/condo..replacing the dish may be a matter of 1-2 days issue & simple as snap of finger but to replace each unit's decoder may not be welcomed by everyone else except u & me...

the management cant simply issue a statement requesting tat everyone change their decoder simply becos this dude in unit 1046 wanna enjoy HD content or issue them a ultimatum tat all unit owners need to replace their decoder by month end...

U must understand there are ppl who couldnt care less what astro offers..this is different from black-white to color broadcast change..analogue tv broadcast is scheduled to run till 2015 i think...only if sufficient time frame is given & ultimatum is issued from government will ppl accept the changes..

actually i don't really card much about HD content. what i want, and i believe most lcd/plasma tv users really want is widescreen content. i'm happy enough if astro able to broadcast all shows in 16:9 dvd quality.

hd contacted my apt's management office & our nominated astro installer.... both of the parties r clueless. so i take that, as my centralized dish is not HD ready, and yup, again both the parties r clueless abt any future upgrades for our centralized dish to be HD enabled.... i m contemplating to install the individual dish on my balcony, illegally of course

well... i believed you can install the dish "illegally" since i see ppl doign this in my apartment. However, i dont think astro will run both SD and HD for long time since it needs more $$$$ to maintain both system at teh sametime. Anyway, it will take longer time to upgrade it (maybe few years). Aiks... Astro just >1 KM from my house... but i cant enjoy HD... sad.gif

unlike landed properties, apartment unit owners doesnt owned the entire building..there are specific rules & regulations to adhered to from cases to cases...

With Astro dish..older apartments will allowed for individual dish installation becos they did not have centralized dish installed during construction..newer apartments mostly will be installed with centralized dish during construction along with cablings run to each units..

If one unit starts installing its own dish then others will follow suit and before u know it instead of apartments balcony we see satellite dish install for every units...

Rules & regulations set by the management is for the best interest of all unit owners..if no one adheres to the rules & regulations then there's no diff in staying in a 300k apartment or 70k PKNS flat..

Yep ... did just that...
It was hell getting Astro marketing ppl to understand what i wanted... but it worked out.
.. After 10 hair pulling days of back and forth with the building management/ installer and Astro marketing... I got my set.

Love HD. Especially when its my favorite channels history and natgeo.
Too bad cant get Discovery HD and AXN.

it is queing up for free ? or Astro bear the cost ? from what we know .. it cost about RM100K for 450 units of apartments.

http://www.mamakcafe.com/v3/thread-1456-1-1.html

I also read from the sun .. this is because of every apartment/condo are using MDU (multi-dwelling units) and most of these centralised units only read signal from 1 satellite, not multiple satellite and existing condos are sets to receive from the low frequency band, while Byond/HD using High freequency band, you either need to rewire the 2nd HD wire or perhaps will until 90% of the user in your building want to upgrade, then scrap the old and to the new HD one

a small tiny hair line glimmer of hope that i may be able to watch the WC2010 in HD rclxms.gif

this notice was released by my condo management last week:

QUOTE
Reference to the above and numerous enquiries, please take note that we have contacted Astro and had been informed that the current upgrading exercise is for individual stand-alone unit.

As to the installation for complexes with central MATV system, it is anticipated that Astro launch it in March or April.  It will also involve replacement of components and additional cost that has yet to be determined.

from what i understand, Astro will bear the replacement/upgrading cost isn't it? they didn't elaborate what they meant by 'replacement of components' could be only MDU + individual receiver set up top box or both + cabling...in which case, i honestly dunno how they gonna rewire the cabling unless all of them were in PVC conduit & can be easily replaced.

anywayss...can only wait, watch SD for now, and wait.....

Greetings!

It has been one year ago since this topic was last discussed. I wonder if there is any great news for dwellers in high-rise apartments to enjoy b-yond services.

I lived in a condo apartment and there are many inquiries as to whether b-yond service is available for residents. There are concerns as to whether the centralized dish system will affect those who do not want to subscribe to b-yond services.

I hope an update can be forth-coming and especially appreciate those who live in condo apartment with b-yond services to give some feedback on the pros and cons. Thanks.

Surprised with this thread. I applied for astro beyond via astro website. The installer came in a week and installed a separate dish near the apartment balcony. Maybe this is the current method for apartments with single shared dish.

i heard it depends on location, number of blocks and the agreement between LS ANG and your condo management.
Once your condo management confirm deal with LS ANG, your condo will only allow staff from L S ANG to install astro as they will be the authorised installer.

I live in Bukit OUG Condo, and their service so far so good. no complain at all biggrin.gif (Y)
