The firmware is only for the new DSP amps. If your sub has the old BASH amp then not firmware upgradeable.

Any future digital amp upgrades planned for the PC12-NSD ?

Seriously, I got hooked to dual subs. Even it is with the SB12-NSD and monstrous PB13-Ultra for now, the ambiance is really different.

Can I pair a SB10-NSD with the PC12-NSD?
Will it be a mismatch or will they complement each other?

The problem with ported sub pair with sealed sub is when it go below port tuning, it will out of phase which might cause phase cancellation. Also, if you do not have the AS-EQ1, you need to manually tune in the gain on both sub to be equal and in phase. If you have equal distance of your sub to your primary position, than set both of your sub phase to 0. It's tricky when it's not equal distance. Again, EQ1 highly recommended if you want to go dual sub if you do not have equal distance and same model of subwoofer.

Thank you for your insights.

Max,
Should one strive to to achieve 0 at the avr subwoofer gain, after Audysey.
Mine shows -6dB, with the subwoofer knob at 11 o'clock.
What benefits are there in achieving 0 at the avr level?

Since 2EQ does not have filters for the sub, can I adjust the trim manually with the SPL meter, without running Audyssey again?.

Can. Trim avr to 0 dB and then adjust sub's gain accordingly. By then, your PC12-NSD's gain sld be abt 9 o'clock plus.

Bro,

I ain't have the PC12-NSD. Waiting for the new gen of PC12-NSD (with DSP amp) to be here. Sld be in Nov / early Dec along with the rest of PC series.

New PB launching will be a tad earlier.
*
I am thinking of dual sub setup and I have a few Q's
Will these new PC12-NSD be different from the current bash amp fitted ones?
If dual sub set-up, integration will be problem or not since they will have different characteristics for sure.
Can retrofit the new dsp amp?

Got special pre-order price for the new NSD?
Returning customer get an extra discount on top of that or not? whistling.gif

Very keen to audition but kinda busy lately..
Maybe on the 26th.

Added on September 14, 2010, 12:05 pmCan the SB12 NSD be paired with the PC -12NSD?
I think needs equalization for optimum performance, which bumps up the $$ needed.
As you suggested, get the Denon 4810 with the MultiEQ32 and Sub EqHT...this needs even more $$$$.
Either it's EQ1 plus Sub or 4810 plus sub....you take trade in for the avr?

Denon 4810 does not have MutliEQ XT 32 (Only have Multi EQ XT) and no sub EQ as well.
Upcoming 4311 and 4811 would have. Or alternatively Onkyo 3008 which has Multi EQ XT 32 and Sub EQ as well.

My bad, actually htkaki meant the 4311

Need advise. I am going for dual sub setup.
Would it be more practical and future proof to get EQ1 and pair with my existing Onkie 607 or get a brand new Denon 4311 or Onkie 3008?
I am running 5.1 with biamp front speakers.
The avr is strictly for movies. No streaming or Ipod or youtube stuff.
Not intending to go 3D either as home minister and I gets a headache wearing those glasses.
Thanks for all assitance.y

Over the past 1 week, I have had the chance to try out the SB12-NSD.
Size wise, it is really compact, not much visual appeal aside from the rather modernistic curved front grill.
It is certainly much different from my PC12-NSD.
It is more immediate with a sharper edge to the bass and no overhang. Great for music and concerts.
For movies, each bass note is clearly defined but I do miss the rumble of the PC. The sofa still shakes with every LFE note rather than a trembling effect I get with the PC.

Finally tamed the rattling plaster ceiling over the christmas holidays and completed my DIY bass trap.

It's a 4'x2' panel made up of two back to back pieces of fibre glass acoutic ceiling boards (80kg/cubic meter density)
These are mounted on a home made wooden frame. while the boards are wrapped in speaker cloth.

I also glued similar pieces cut into smaller sizes, on to my rattling ceiling panels and stopped the annoying rattles completely.

The LFE bass is much tighter with less boom and overhang now. rclxms.gif
The absence of the rattling ceiling is a huge huge relief.
Finally, I can truly enjoy the subsonic effects without the added sound effects from my ceiling rclxm9.gif

If anyone is interested, I have left over acoustic ceiling boards that is enuf for another 3 panels.

good to hear that smile.gif Can take some photos of your DIY panels?

Will snap some tonight when I get home.
The offending ceiling panels are waiting for the glue to dry before I plaster in the joint lines. Now they look pretty unsightly.
Luckily my HM is very understanding notworthy.gif

Actually, the rattles came from a vertical plaster partition between the front half concrete ceiling of the living hall and the lower plaster ceiling in the rear half.
I used latex glue to stick smaller pieces of the acoustic panels to this vertical partition which was vibrating.
The joints will be sealed later with plaster and painted over, it looks ugly now.

The bass trap I made following instructions on http://www.basstraps.net/DIY-BASS-TRAPS-MADE-EASY.pdf

It is 4 feet high and 2 feet wide.
The two pieces of acoustics boards together are 3.5 inches thick.
Sitting on the the 2 inches thick wooden frame, the total thickness is 5.5 inches.
It really does the job though.
The bass is altogether so much better.

for me at least it did help to solved my rattling sound issue...

I think it will help a lot if one has a wooden floor.
On concrete or tiles or marble flooring, the vibrations are not going to be transmitted as much.
My subdude didn't do zilch to tame the rattling, but it nice to look at.. tongue.gif
