Dear all the guru here, I need some help on purchasing a new set of sound system for my HT in my living room. The set-up is for me to watch astro, listen to "astro MTV" songs and watching some DVD. Btw, I am not a hardcore user. Currently I,m only using a Sony 37 inch LCD TV and the sound is "just bad" / "bassless".

Over the last few weeks, I have went to shop to try HTIB and separate set. HTIB sound "a bit flat" and of course the separate set is awesome but it's much more expensive.

Basically, I do not want too many cables lying arounds my living room (as I prefer neat and tidy space). After from HTIB and separate set, I also considering soundbar and even those PC speakers (ie. Harmon Kardon Soundbar II) to connect direct to my LCD TV. Please advise what should I get as I,m really lost now.

Budget: Maximum is RM4k.

Peference: Something neat to look at. hmm.gif

Firstly if you wanna add a HT to your living room in that location is a bit awkward for the rear satellites.
But you can always add down-firing speakers from the ceiling or add speakers close to the ceiling. May not be the ideal location but at least you can lessen the speaker wiring on you tiles. If you insist on adding rear satellite at the appropriate location, I suggest a carpet to hide the wiring.
If you are not so fussy with the sound and just want convenience, you just get yourself one of those virtual surround HT systems like the DAV-FXG99K. Try it out at Sony Store. Best thing is there is a wall quite close to the rack so you can put the subwoofer there to get better boom - boom sound smile.gif

Anyway, I think your LCD is mounted a bit too high wink.gif

Thanks mpyw and azbro for the suggestion. Yup, my LCD is mounted a bit too high. haaa. (Just lazy to adjust it).

My sofa is actually L-shape. Actually i only have 3 walls (behind the LCD, on the left and opposite the LCD). On the right is actually empty so I,m not sure the virtual surround will work or not.

If I,m not too particular, will a 2.1 speakers works just fine for listening to music?

Why get a 2.1? If like that better get 2 speakers only lah...not satellite speakers.but full range floor standing speakers.
If you still want more boom for movies...then set an active Sub..no..not those 6.5inch woofer that comes with most HT system..get a proper one.
Take note, for music, too much bass is also not nice to hear...and the neighbors will be banging heads on the wall.

Anyway, the Virtual Surround will work in your environment. Just go to the sony store to check it out.
