OK have some time to post more details on the moding subject now. The subject is a Silverstone ST405 PSU which is about 3 years old. It has about 7 cables. I only sleeved the ATX and P4 cables for the PSU and the entire hole where the wires exit is already overcrowded. Sheesh, sleeving a non-modular PSU is a real headache. It took me about 5 minutes to sleeve the P4 cable.

The problem came when I decided to sleeve the ATX cables. The cable numbering and wire removal itself took me about 1 hour to do. Then I took about 2 weeks to sleeve 18 cables (5 hours total) only to realise that it was not the "PERFECT" result that I wanted to achieve.

Hence I resleeved the entire ATX cable on another day which took me about 5 hours to achieve the perfect sleeving. Below is a snippet of the work done on the PSU. This can also serve as a tutorial for those who want to achieve the same result as I did as I have included all the work I did to achieve the result.

First, removal of the pins from the ATX socket. I used the MOLEX Original Pin Remover from MDPC-X. It fits in perfectly, but the pins seem to be very stubborn to remove on the first try. It required a bit of strength to pull it out. Once the "virginity" has been broken, it becomes very easy to remove on subsequent attempts blush.gif

To achieve the perfect sleeving, I started by cutting the sleeves to length. I used a nail clipper and a electronics "playar kacip" to snip the cables to get a nice cut. If you use a scissors to cut, you will not be able to achieve a uniform cut. Then I seared the end with a "jet flame lighter" to achieve a good melt.

Then I sleeved the cables by using the "caterpillar technique". I push the cable in on one end and then you push the sleeve in with one hand while the other is firmly gripping the sleeved cable. Then I gripped the wire with the other hand and release the one gripping the sleeved cable causing the sleeving to go in.

I measured all heatshrink to 2cm length and cut them using a blade on a cutting board. I used a 2100W Philips hairdryer to shrink it. To achieve a good hold, the seared sleeving should have some hard outer ridges due to the searing procedure. Then the heathshrink should be covering a portion of the pin. This gives it a very good hold.

Stretch the cable as tight as possible (to get a good result on macro photography) and then heatshrink it. The result is as below. Repeated the process for all other cables.

Took me 4 hours just to finish the ATX cables (actually to redo it). The previous one didn't look the way I wanted it to look so I redo the whole thing.

I wanted all the heatshrink/sleeve length to be perfectly aligned. LOL.
