Dude, answers right on top of this page: its an M1A1 Abrams, and my apologies because I will be derailing this thread a bit. I like going all Discovery Channel and National Geographic everytime someone asked me such questions.


The M1 Abrams main battle tank is the principal combat tank of the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps, with three main versions being deployed starting in 1980: the M1, M1A1, and M1A2. The latest versions of the M1A2 have a new armor and electronics package. It is named after General Creighton Abrams, former Army Chief of Staff and commander of the Army's 37th Armored Battalion. The M1 Abrams replaced the M60 Patton in US service although the M60 remains in use with the US National Guard. The heavy lost of expensive equipments to insurgent's RPG and IED in Iraq throughout this year saw the M60 making a return to active service, along with the AH-1 Super Cobra, another old veteran due to cheaper cost in maintainance and the fact that these equipments are 4 decades old (albeit continuously upgraded), proving their reliability.

The M1A2 is obviously an improved version of the M1A1 Abrams. Better computer systems were introduced through the System Enhanced Program (SEP). The SEP upgrade includes improved CPUs, colored high-res flat panel displays, increased memory capacity, user-friendly Soldier Machine Interface (SMI) and an open operating system which may allow future upgrades to be added later. Major improvements include second-generation Forward-Looking InfraRed (FLIR) sight, Under Armor Auxiliary Power Unit (UAAPU) and a Thermal Management System (TMS). These improvements caused a drastic increase in the Abram's performance on the battlefield: 70% better target acquisition, 45% quicker firing and an uncalculated percentage of increase in accuracy.
