Um, yes it seems to be the tactic, increase the limit.

No, they didn't increase your limit just to make you to spend more so that you get to redeem RM50 rebate.
I think the bank realized people tend to cut the card with the lower limit. Let me guess, you cut your lower limit card right?

I will actually keep one super high limit and one super low limit credit card for different purposes.

high = 28k
low = 5k

well im keeping Citibank Card, i like it for thier reliable service & for shell petrol (im a v-power kaki)

the moment i log in my paypal account probably 1min away? they phone me asking if im doing somethings in paypal account.

if i buy somethings online, it will always phone me for approval.

my parents have lots of cards, from what i know they say maybank CC is the worse of all, no inform on paypal, no confirmation when purchase online (maybe first time), even lose $ for paying petrol at 2 diff location at the sametime. JB & PJ sametime? sweat.gif

dont know how citibank manage to monitor so many customer, with that little outlets they have.

oh most probably alot ppl would take maybank card its for the petronas rebate, so far i have been to petronas twice for emergency only. (driving for 12 years sweat.gif)

I'll keep 1 plat & 1 classic from 2 dif banks & 2 dif brands.

Bank U - Visa
Bank C - MC

Added on December 31, 2009, 9:48 amI think the GST causes all parties lose-lose situation.

Banks
- Receive tons of cancellation request.
- Force to issue free upgrade + increase CL.
- Higher operating cost & credit risk exposure

Card-holders
- Force to initiate card cancellation
- Those with easi-payment are stuck
- Receive pre-apporved upgrade card where they might not qualify or can't afford
- Could fall into annual fee trap later due to higher waiver requirements.
- Need to fork out RM50 GST annually or spend more to off-set.

Gov
- Need to wait till Dec-10 because a lot of new issuance in Dec-09
- One more IT system to keep track of GST

At the end the Gov intention to reduce Rakyat expenses does not materialise.

Most card-holders are delaying their cancellation to Dec-10. By then most Rakyat would carry 1 or 2 high CL CC in thier wallet.

Decided to keep:

Day-to-day use:
1. Maybank/Amex Gold for the 5x MR on groceries/petrol/telco/bookstores
2. CIMB Enrich Plat for Enrich Miles

High credit limit for emergencies/overseas travel (occasional use locally when there's good promotions):
3. Citi Plat
4. StanChart Plat - can get discounts in HK/SG where I go frequently for biz

Cancelling:
1 & 2. UOB Plats (2x) - poor rewards program
3. Citi Shell Gold - don't need a 2nd Citi card, using the Maybank Amex Gold instead
4. CIMB DA - don't use it anymore anyway.

Basically keeping 2 local cards for general use here, and 2 high-limit foreign bank cards for emergencies and overseas travel.

agreed, i m a frequent traveller. withdraw cash (from saving account) at any citi ATM FOC, only cost me bank exchange. Citi hv ATM in all major cities and some airports. I dont like to exchange too mush cash at money changer (2nd loss if change back to RM). just withdraw any needed amount at ATM.

p/s: usually stay hotel near citi ATM

any other CC have the same privilege?? guess most international bank do? eg Standard Chartered, HSBC etc?? which bank has the most oversea ATM??

why people wanna keep the cards till Dec 10? Due to the announcement of credit card RM50 service tax charges by Govt? People are advising me to keep at least 2 cards - 1 visa & 1 master. Nevertheless I think keeping 2 cards with total RM100 tax is a bit too much

I am just as puzzled as muscaa. What card type exactly are you guys talking about ? Withdrawing cash overseas using your Citibank debit card or Citibank credit card ?

As for which international bank has the most ATM in overseas. Well, first you can cross Standard Chartered Bank off your list.

Standard Chartered Bank has over 1700 full service retail banking branches in the world and all of them are in Asia and Africa. It doesn't offer any retail banking services outside Asia/Africa, hence no ATM outside Asia/Africa. Hong Kong is Standard Chartered Banking Group's largest market that pulls in the most revenue every year follows by South Korea in the second place and India in the third place.

Citibank has over 4000 full service retail banking branches (including the branches of 100% owned Banamex in Mexico) in the world. 1001 of the branches are all located in the USA. ATM can only be found in certain parts of USA and in more than 5000 7-Eleven stores with Citibank-branded offsite ATM in USA. It might be the third largest banking group in the USA but many smaller rivals actually have far more branches than Citibank. Anyhow, they do have a huge presence outside of USA and that will always give them an edge.

HSBC has over 8500 full service retail banking branches in the world. ATM can be easily found in UK and Hong Kong.

HSBC is no doubt much larger in terms of branch but am not not really sure who has more ATM overall.

The latest news/rumours I heard is BNM had give the go ahead for banks to absorb. Not sure whether or not it's legit news yet because it's still not announced.

So just treat this piece of news as rumours for now.
*
Actually the Beban Negara govt does not want banks to absorb as most foreign banks are willing to do so, which would kill off their cronies namely MBB, CIMB etc as if the govt link banks were to absorbed, its akin to the govt screwing themselves, goes to shows how they never think things thru vmad.gif

But they also can't control promotions offers like swipe 3 times & win 10000 points which you can then use to offset the RM50 without killing off the whole industry, so they are now caught by their own stupidity shakehead.gif

I have asked this question on Citibank staff before, it is the debit card which give you cash withdrawal from citibank ATM in oversea without any extra charges. They have a wide network internationally. Credit card - need to pay charges when you withdraw money (cash advance)

Yes. I am aware of the fee free withdrawal using our Citibank VISA debit card to withdraw for cash overseas at any Citibank ATM. But these guys were talking about they are keeping Citibank credit card because Citibank is big and they have many ATM around the globe. I mean, what does having a Citibank credit card have to do with ATM at all ? Unless they want to withdraw cash advance but they can do that at any ATM in the world as long as the ATM supports VISA/Mastercard. Besides, this is a thread about credit card and all of a sudden they were talking about withdrawing cash ?? rclxub.gif
