which is why i've said our best choice now, with aquilani crocked, is still aurelio to partner masch.
or drop gerrard back with masch and put in ngog with torres up front.
*
I'd opt for the latter and I'm also interested to see how Benayoun will do if played behind Torres. Yossi is arguably our most creative player and he tends to drift infield anyway. It's similar to how we sometimes played Garcia in the hole when we needed to unlock defences. The Spaniard was at that time touted to be our most creative player as well. Some may say that Benayoun may be a little slight to play in that position but Garcia is no giant either.

guess we'll see what rafa will do this weekend with both masch and aquilani out.
with ngog and torres up front tho, our wings wont have to drift in too much to support a lone torres.
this would mean our backs dont have to come up too often to cover the hole left by the in-drifting wings, so basically they can spend more time defending tongue.gif

Can't remember the last time we set out with a 4-4-2 formation.

Mascherano will be banned for another 4 matches no? Lets see some changes! biggrin.gif

kuyt has played up front in a 4-4-2 a few times already, ie. all those matches where torres was injured.
before that vs blackburn, kuyt was the lone striker in a 4-5-1...tho some have criticizingly called it a 4-6-0.

aaa...now i know .....

ok ..let say we play 4-5-1, thats mean we need someone creative like Alonso in the middle, to pass the ball through...

if we play 2 DM...without creativity like Lucas, Masch, we just lack of attacking,

if we play 4-4-2, he have better attacking, and need balance in defend so we cannot concede goals...

so with the player we got now....

we can play 4-5-1, and will be effective if AQUA or GERRARD play in Alonso position....

hahaha...am i right? it just playing the right player at their right position.....others, (form, class) will be in different topic

this formation, we have good attacking power...but our defense must be at good form...depends on opponent tactic la...
Aqua can do defensive role? maybe not as good as Masch..but it will be acceptable if we score enough... smile.gif

I have a hunch that rafa feels he needs to recoup his investment with lucas...afterall we got him for 6m...and he hardly played much in his first 2 seasons...
right now its anyones guess as to how much lucas is worth as no one wants him...but i would say his value has dropped from the initial 6m...this season rafa and lucas are trying to up the value with more starts and hopefully a possible move away tongue.gif

Rafa Benitez wants Emile Heskey back at Liverpool

Rafa Benitez will be allowed to buy two players next month – and he wants Emile Heskey back at Anfield as one of them.

The Liverpool boss has come under sustained pressure following a dreadful first half of the season.

But Benitez will be offered backing by the board, proof he still has a future at the club.

Star striker Fernando Torres last night admitted the situation was bleak, as he said: “I think it is really difficult because I think we don’t have money to bring in the best players – and obviously we need players.]

“But if we can bring in quality players, it should be really positive for us.”

Heskey scored 60 goals in four years at Liverpool before being sold in the summer of 2004 – a month before Benitez took over.

With the World Cup looming and his starting position at Aston Villa far from guaranteed, the England striker could be attracted back to the club.

Benitez admires Heskey’s unselfish approach and feels he could provide the perfect foil for Torres.

Benitez has also looked at Ruud van Nistelrooy and Italy international Luca Toni as alternatives.

He wants a wide player, and is considering a move for Celtic’s Aiden McGeady, available for about £8million. Also on the radar is Holland winger Eljero Elia, who could be prised away from Hamburg for £10m and Turkish flyer Arda Turan.

Benitez may have up to £15m to spend as he allows up to four players to leave in the transfer window, with Ryan Babel chief among his saleable assets.

He can also try to raise funds by selling Italy defender Andrea Dossena, Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin and Swiss full-back Philipp Degen.

Liverpool have dismissed suggestions that Saudi tycoon Prince Faisal bin Fahd Bin Abdullah al Saud is close to agreeing a deal to buy a stake in the club.

The member of the Saudi royal family owns the F6 marketing group and has been invited as a guest to Liverpool’s Boxing Day match with Wolves by owner George Gillett.

But insiders claim no deal to sell any stake in the club is near, and the prince is not a serious contender to buy into Anfield.
