Is dinar considered tokens, reason for asking is because dinars are not legal tender?

you can always make an ads at Mudah.my or lelong or ebay malaysia, sure got people interested if the price is right.
other alternative is try find some active local FB silver group. got a lot of trading activities lately..

Whatever is widely available here in Malaysia be it dinar Kelantan, Perak or Melaka?

Either gold or silver dinar, excluding paper or other metals because strictly speaking those are out of context.

aaron,

dinar - 4.25gm gold
dirham - 2.95gm silver

dinar is automatically gold, and dirham are silvers.

Lets not assume or take it granted since the term dinar is not exclusive to just gold or silver coinage tongue.gif Iraqi currency both paper notes and coins are called dinar as well.

Anyway let me rephrase my original question.

Whatever is widely available in Malaysia be it dinar/dirham Kelantan, Perak or Melaka, etc gold or silver, excluding paper or other metals. Are dinar's legal tender or are they tokens?

haha chill..
as precious metal dinar always refer to gold coins and dirham is a silver coins.

and as far as I know dinar/dirham are not yet being use as legal tender in the state level.
but some of private group of people/trader already use them as money in their micro market.

You can always sell it back to your supplier. I know quite a few local suppliers do buy back. Check for the spread with your supplier.

No doubt you can always sell in mudah.my or lelong or ebay but that liquidity is not instant. It's better to get from a supplier that buy back. So it's always hassle free. But of course you need to do some background checking and do not blindly just listen to the supplier. They will always say they will buy back when they sell to you. But in actual fact, some do not. Check on their modal of the business and stuff. You can also check with some forumers here as well to get more reviews about overseas and local suppliers.

dinar and dirham weight is meant to be like that. moreover like i've said before in previous posts, it's related to islam purposes. so they cannot be compared to normal gold and silver in terms in weight.

if you want to buy, buy as collection. fyi, currently they are being used as legal tender as well as mutual agreement between buyer and seller when purchase of goods.

again, do not compare them. just buy if you want them.

Most of the dinar and dirham are not in pure gold or silver, normally mixed with other metal.
So far from what I heard from my friend, some of the pawn shops at Kelantan don't accept them.

most of dinar in Malaysia minted with 916 purity of gold, the rest should be silver..they are mixed to have a strong and more durable to be use as coins.
but for Dirham its normal to use 999 purity of silver...

yes, some of those small shop/store have a difficulty to liquidize those dirham back to Ringgit as they still need Ringgit for their cashflow...
