Just bought the Monster Ultra 1000 THX component cable to connect the latest Astro decoder into my Sharp Aquos Full HD LCD.

The image has been improved tremendously and color also improving than the old decoder with S-Video cable.

However noticed that the LCD keep flick seems like it try to locate the display resolution especially viewing certain channel like 311 (Wa Lai Toi), 312, etc.

Does anyone facing the similar problem? Or is there any setting that I had missed out?

Suggestion and comments are welcome. thumbup.gif

You just use a normal HDMI cable, beats buying expensive component cable. Since it will be digital, no need to worry about the cable quality.

Can you confirm that your astro decoder actually has component output and not composite output?
If this is true, can you tell me th model of the decoder. Thanks.

I am not really into the new Beyond package especially if they plan to charge more.
To me, what is more important is content.

Thanks.

Off topic a little.. but I think it's a waste of money to spend hundreds of dollars on cables. They perform the same whether cheap or expensive. It's all in the mind.

Well, for analog, maybe. But for digital, definitely no difference.

Agreed. tried using RCA cables (cheap FOC) provided in the ASTRO b.yond box to connect to Component. HD picture quality nearly as good as HDMI. Component max at SD 576i, and my HD is 720p.

Svideo cable only carry video signals. You need to connect the red & white rca to get the sound.

I'm not sure if that's the answer you are looking for.

If your decoder supports s-video connections, you should not need any settings. It's plug and play.

Check whether the s-video pins is bent or not. Remove the cable and swap it opposite, meaning, remove the decoder end and connect to the tv and vice versa.

Probably the cable is faulty.

Have you select the correct AV channel on your TV?

Make sure you connect the svideo and 2 rca cable on the same av channel at the back of your TV, and select that av channel via remote control.

I was willing to sell my old decoder and buy a new decoder because of a few issues that bothers me..
old decoder
-remote response is crappy.. If I push a number on the remote, it is not necessarily the decoder can capture
the number. I cannot push numbers very fast.. it won't capture or capture the wrong number. If I push very slow, the numbers shown on the tv will immediately gone, and I have to reenter the channel number..
-I swear I already had more than 10 astro remotes. The remotes won't last long. Yeah.. more than 10 broken remotes (over 6 years of astro subscription), I'm not kidding..

I think that's among the major reason why astro introduce newer decoder..

Can we ask Astro to change to the new decoder without upgrading to Astro Beyond?
Do we need to pay?
