I'm owning a Toshiba L510-S438 Laptop, and has just upgraded my Windows from Vista to 7 through the Toshiba upgrade media kit, I'm having a doubt here, if let say I wanna recover my system back to original Windows 7 factory setting with all application and drivers installed, what should I do? Can I use F8 key recovery system to recover my system back to Windows 7 or it's only able to recover back to my Windows Vista version?
*
As I said earlier, my guess is that your recovery system partition will contain only Vista installation files. So, when you do recovery, you will recover to Vista, not Win7.

My suggestion is to do backup image copy of your current Win7, then try to recovery to see the result.

Acronis True Image / Backup & Recovery, Norton Ghost, Paragon Backup & Recovery.

more question blush.gif

1)i choose 32bit of win7 instead of 64bit.i am confused if the recovery disc i've created is in 32bit or both?  hmm.gif

2)where is recovery partition?i am scared if i accidently delete it blush.gif
*
1) it doesn't matter cos recovery disc contains 32-bit & 64-bit win7 installation files.

2) it's hidden, no need to worry unless u do full format of ur hard disk.

Just contact Talk-2-Toshiba Technical Assistant, for L510-S438 model, there is only one way to recover your windows back to Windows 7 Home Premium with drivers and toshiba applcation installed is to recover your system using 0 key during boot and recover back to windows vista and perform again the Windows 7 Upgrade by the Upgrade Media Kit DVD.
*
0 key? or F8 key?

Well, my guess is correct, as the recovery partition will still contain only Vista files.

If you plan to skip the recovery & do clean install of Win7, please make sure you copy out the Toshiba Drivers & Applications folders, as you will need some of them for your Win7 and cannot be found at the links below.

You may find the Win7 drivers & applications here (32-bit/64-bit):

To recover your hard disk drive using utilities stored on your laptop's hard disk:

1. Make sure the laptop is turned off.

2. Press and hold the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard while powering on your laptop. When the laptop powers on, the Toshiba Recovery Wizard screen displays.

how bout create another partition? i had started using this laptop, there's only one partition. wanna create another for backing up my files in the future.

You can use Norton Partition Magic, Acronis Disk Director, or Paragon Partition Manager Free Edition to create logical drive.

First, resize your C drive (eg. 100GB), then format & partition the remaining as D drive (choose logical & NTFS format).

and you'll see lot of folders,is that all the installer/setup for bloatware?? hmm.gif

one more thing,i couldn't find any way to make my C drive smaller than 140gb mad.gif ..

total drive size 290GB,available shrink space 140GB only ohmy.gif

Yes, all the drivers & applications is there.

I've resized my C drive to 50GB and created D drive as logical drive, 236GB. May be you should try different partition manager.

s4314?i bought it RM2799 vmad.gif  with 1 year warranty + unsure free warranty cry.gif

yes,the speaker quiet weak but acceptable,my 6 years old Acer Travelmate sounds better.Toshiba should put Harmon/Kardon speakers in all thier pc like Compaq(Altec Lansing)  rolleyes.gif
*
well, there are few available, partition magic, acronis disk director, paragon partition manager.

normally, i would store music, picture, movies files in D drive, just in case my C drive having issue, i can easily recover C drive using backup & recovery tools.

if u concern about security, u can always create & configure the folders with ur own account permission.

What you mean by backup & recovery tools? Is it the Toshiba System Recovery or 3rd party recovery tools?
*
I meant 3rd party recovery tools for faster & convenient option.

But, you can also use Toshiba System Recovery to recover only your C drive, look for "Recovering the C partition of the HDD without changing the current partition size" at the Toshiba HDD Recovery manual in pdf file format.
