Just got a Toshiba Satellite P755-1003x. Extremely satisfy with it even though it is a tad more expensive compared to other brands.

Took it back home and I tried to reinstall a clean copy of windows using a CD I had (don't like all the software installed by manufacturers tongue.gif )and at the installation stage, it keeps asking me for the CD-ROM driver. Just want to check if anyone here managed to do a clean installation of windows? A bit worry that the CD-ROM could be faulty.

Try install using flash drive ?

Yes, that is an option. But, I am more concern about the CD-ROM now. If the CD-ROM is faulty, I would prefer send it for warranty asap.

First time encountering this situation. It is a possibility that Toshiba tried to prevent users from re-installing a clean copy of windows?

That disk can format on other computer ? Could be a bad copy..

Yes, it works on other PC. No issue with the disc at all. I can even boot into it. But, after clicking the install at the boot screen, windows installer prompt me to search for the CD-ROM driver shocking.gif That is weird to me as from what I understand, the laptop is already reading the CD contents.

Do you have any usb device plugged in ? Try remove those.

If not, try run the Setup from Windows and it will ask to restart..
*
Yes, I tried to run from Windows. But, at the same stage after reboot, it would again request for the CD-ROM driver.

Only USB device plugged in is my wireless mouse receiver. The mouse should not be an issue as the installer requested for the CD-ROM driver. But, I will try to re-install windows again later without the mouse.

Seems like it is my CD-ROM problem after all. I tried to copy large chunk of files from the CD in Windows and once in a while it would stop spinning and hang. It also keeps making loud noise. Anyway already called up the shop and bad luck third day of purchase so no more 1 to 1 exchange. Most probably have to claim warranty through Teledynamics.

You can use any Windows 7 CD. Just key in the code on the back of your laptop to activate it. And the code is valid for both 32 and 64 bit as long as it is the same version. smile.gif

"Sorry, your warranty registration cannot be processed. Please contact Toshiba Global Support Center at 1800 8674422 (Singapore) or refer to http://pc.toshiba-asia.com/hotline for other countries support hotline."

why la? even part no i check, there is no such part no in the website...

I registered my warranty recently. No problem at all. The part no. and serial no. are both located at the bottom of the laptop. No need to fill in the model no. Btw, part no. is different from model no. Perhaps you filled up the wrong code? hmm.gif
