I called Astro but was told to wait till next year because I have AstroMAX and would like to have recording feature for Astro B.yond.

But with the current decoder box having USB port and the remote control having the function of "recording to external harddisk", I wonder if the next year release of recording function for Astro B.yond will simply just be a firmware update plus an extermal harddisk? If yes, maybe I should pull the trigger now since it's "free" from now till Apr'10?

saw astro supersport HD at the astro store today...they had football clips as a demo...

TV was a 42" Samsing LCD they had on the wall... do not know if its hd ready or full-hd...

natural 16:9 yay!
the grass looks kind of "blurry and soft" when the camera moves around quickly...image of course is noticeably sharper... the close ups when interview players is good...i would imagine some people MAY be disappointed if they are expecting miracles from astro hidef...i guess u just have to judge for yourself...

DO NOT expect a bluray like image quality as it is clearly not as refined... however it is a stepup from standard def... i imagine that the movies and discovery channels would fare better...

did not get to hear any sound..

Am looking forward to mine! biggrin.gif

isnt it cheaper just to subscribe as new user since they waive the installation for new subscriber? at lease you dont need to pay rm20 for 12 month yet still get new decoder.

I think you still have to subscribe the standard package plus installation(SD decoder and dish) first before you can apply for Astro B.yond (HD decoder and dish) free upgrade installation.

for new subscriber, read the FAQ
QUOTE(AstroB.yond FAQ)
New customers:
If you are new to Astro and would like to get the new Astro B.yond Box and subsequently view the high definition channels, you will have to sign up to the current Astro standard definition packages while we process your application for the new Astro B.yond Box.

You will be given the standard definition Astro box, complete with the free standard installation, while waiting for the new Astro B.yond Box. Once the Astro B.yond Box is available, we will call you to arrange for an exchange.

You will receive the Astro B.yond Box, a new smartcard, a new outdoor dish unit (ODU), a new remote control, and HDMI cables free of charge on the condition that you return the other Astro box, remote control, smartcard, ODU and commit to take up the high definition channels at RM20.00 per month for a minimum of 12 months, which will allow you to enjoy the high definition channels of the standard definition channels available on your current subscription.

Ask them to turn off the 100hz samsung motion thing. It make the video blurry.

Yes, that's why Sony started the MotionFlow thing to help the sport actions become clearer and sharper (less blur) as well.

ecam , i guess you do work for ASTRO.

Nevertheless , I want to ask you. Is it a must to replace the coax cables , i mean its the same RB6 cables right ?

Secondly I want to ask you this. Can it support 2 simultaneous output like my current Nokia Setupbox whereby I can output S-video to my TV and feed rca cables to my computer. I've my HTPC setup to automatically record certain programmes or if i am browising the net via my HTPC and If i want to tune into astro without the need of switching channels or getting the remote

Please do answer that

I am just asking for HDMI out for my TV and just normal connectors out support at the same time for my PC. I understand that it wouldn't work with hD channels cause my tuner does not do HD. Thats fine with me , I just want recording for SD shows only !

The TV is full-HD.
So yea.... 720p shown on screen will still need to be upscaled anyways, thus the blurriness.

I don't think Astro will be willing to shell out for 1080p signals just yet.

But so far the response for Astro B.yond is good, I hope they add more channels quickly starting next year.
