possible way to reduce rain-fade
QUOTE(wiki)
Possible ways to overcome the effects of rain fade are:
1)site diversity,
2)uplink power control,
3)variable rate encoding,
4)receiving antennas larger than the requested size for normal weather conditions,
5)and hydrophobic coatings.
it is interesting to know that NASA's Tracking Data Relay Satellite also uses Ku band signal for both space shuttle tracking and ISS communications

read about the rain effect on the Astro channel.

I read somewhere, some bright sparks found that wrapping the Satellite Dish Centre Stalk (the thing that stick out in the centre of the dish) with plastic bag, can improve reception during rain.

Perhaps some of you can try that.

Given that analogue signal will be phased out by 2015, its a waste to even buy SD tv.

Last time I see a normal SD tv is at a hypermarket that sells unbranded set with curved CRT. Those thing still exist!

Lot of ppl done that in my area but their are done on their illegal 1 meter dish. whistling.gif

Instead of plastic bag, their using cut plastic coca-cola (or whatever) bottle (1 little bottle). whistling.gif

I submitted online registration yesterday. They called me today and confirmed the application. Said the installer will come within 10 days.

Free from now till march 2010. The Rm20/month only effective from April 2010.

Hehe, eager to see the HD channels!

I just got a call from Astro (2nd time) to verify my IC/Add/Smart card.

She told me all the T&C, and that I had to return dish, decoder, and remote. Pay RM80 if I refuse to return. I will be charge starting April 2010, and the one year contract starts from April 2010 till April 2011.

Cannot break contract otherwise come with a penalty of RM260+. I must not abuse the decoder also.

Silly thing asked me to verify my Astro ID card which I cannot do since I'm at the office!

She told me the Astro installer would be coming within 10 calender days, which means this month (I hope).

I register myself online since last Friday.
