try negotiate with the installer, but if astro is giving out 20m for free, why not just take it

modern plasma/lcd can de-interlace 1080i, so we effectively get 1080p, no?

Just got my byond installed today. So far so good and the quality of the HD channels crisp n clear. I don't subscribe HBO, thus will not comment on the HBO HD quality.
*
but can you still watch HBO HD even without movie package subscription?

measat 3a Launched 21 June 2009, has 12 Ku-band and 12 C-band transponders, design life of 15 years

old measat 3 launched 11 December 2006, has 24 Ku/24 C band transponders

How many channel support by one transponder actually?

I think not much transponder left on Measet 3A because it already lease by some DTH (Direct-to-Home) TV company from India.
So new satelite if required to broadcast more HD channel

yes, BigTV from india occupied 8 KU-band transponder on older measat 3
I think astro has already reserved all ku-band transponders on measat 3a

negotiate with your installer, if you read previous few posts, some lyn member got their HD installation without putting in new cable

the installer will test out the old cable, if no-go then it must be replaced

my understanding is that lnb head is the same for old and new dish, the only difference is the dish size, so sd and hd decoders can both share the same new dish

just realized that dish size increase is not to tackle rain-fade, but to allow for drifting error in one of the satellite position, measat 3a seems to be drifting from 91.5° east, also the dish must now pointed at centre position between these 2 satellites to receive optimum signal.

astro currently uses these ku-band transponders on measat 3 for SDTV broadcast, each transponder carried about 14 SDTV channels:
10982, 11062, 11102, 11182, 11482, 11522, 11562, 11602, 11642, 11682 (in MHz)
for these downlink frequencies, 9750MHz lo (local oscillating) frequncy is used, no need to use 22KHz to switch to 10600MHz, that is why we can share sigle LNB dish to multiple decoders.

if astro is to use higher downlink frequency to broadcast HD channel, thus must use 22KHZ switch to select 10600MHz lo frequency, then dish can no be shared

wow lots of money to spend for HD broadcasting! rclxub.gif

Has anybody swapped their Astro Max to Astro B.Yond yet? I'm trying to get some advice here.
*
astroMax= 2 tuner + recordable
HD box= single tuner + HD, currently no record function available

HD box with astromax-like function = may be available some time next year, very expensive, customer may need to pay for it

take your pick
