QUOTE(minimize @ Dec 15 2009, 07:35 PM) Sound good.. your 2 decoder need a splitter to share one dish, but I guess you already have thatAre you guyz know it is posibble that I can use new Sat Dish (came with HD decoder) with old decoder? I have 2 decoder in my home and using same Sat Dish. new dish may have improved version of lnb head, could improve on the received signal, gives you better resistance to rain-fade. |

QUOTE(attap @ Dec 15 2009, 08:30 PM) To avoid any problem for HD reception, astro requires all installer to replace a new cable. Otherwise it will be no deal. I believe the new cable would be a much better quality then the previous cable supplied by astro. It should be still the same RG6 cable but better quality for sure. no more splitting? So astro will give out 2 dishes for those with 2 decoders+1 dish? cool Added on December 15, 2009, 8:35 pm This time around, 1 dish ---> 1 decoder. No more splitting. QUOTE(matmoto5125 @ Dec 15 2009, 09:03 PM) the interesting part is the normal SD channel oso come with so-called HD reso.. with the side black bar that is.. why dun they just leave it in it's normal SD reso, so that can stretch using TV function.. :sigh: 720p HD = 1280×720576i SD = 720×576 eventhough your HDTV can upscale 576i signal, some details will be missing actually both SD and HD channels will be simulcast. |

astro is trying to do something about that problem by replacing old dish with slightly larger dish and brand new rg6 coaxial cable.

I wonder would 1m dish solve the rain fade problem, but then our government don't allow citizen to have big size dish
solid 1m dish would cost few hundred ringgit |

not sure, but from reading past post,
old dish = 60cm new dish = 65cm if astro gives us petrol station's dish, then even Hurricane Katrina strike again we can still watch HD |

HD uses DVB-S2, 30% more efficient than DVB-S, thus uses less bandwidth
HD also uses H.264/AVC/Mpeg4 part 10, don't know how efficient when comparing to mpeg2 current used in SD broadcast QUOTE(apple QuickTime) How does H.264 compare with MPEG-2? so it is about 50% more efficientHD MPEG-2 content at 1920x1080 traditionally runs at 12-20 Mbps, while H.264 can deliver 1920x1080 content at 7-8 Mbps at the same or better quality. H.264 provides DVD quality at about half the data rate of MPEG-2. Because of this efficiency, H.264, an ISO standard, stands to be the likely successor to MPEG-2 in the professional media industry. my guess is that at the end HD broadcast may turn out to be using same bandwidth as SD broadcast This post has been edited by neb: Dec 16 2009, 12:16 AM |

possible way to reduce rain-fade
QUOTE(wiki) Possible ways to overcome the effects of rain fade are: it is interesting to know that NASA's Tracking Data Relay Satellite also uses Ku band signal for both space shuttle tracking and ISS communications1)site diversity, 2)uplink power control, 3)variable rate encoding, 4)receiving antennas larger than the requested size for normal weather conditions, 5)and hydrophobic coatings. QUOTE(low98944 @ Dec 16 2009, 09:45 AM) Lot of ppl done that in my area but their are done on their illegal 1 meter dish. that is prime focus dish as oppose to astro offset dish, they use plastic cola bottle to keep the rain water out of LNB head, nothing to do with rain-fadeInstead of plastic bag, their using cut plastic coca-cola (or whatever) bottle (1 little bottle). |

QUOTE(kaspersky-fan @ Dec 16 2009, 06:05 PM) ... yes, component can support analog HD up to 1080p, ask your lecturer surf the internet more Im very sure component cable could only go up to 1080i not p.... my lecturer told me that... and when I went to buy the component cable, I've seen so many brands but all of them support at most 1080i.... QUOTE High definition This post has been edited by neb: Dec 16 2009, 06:10 PManalog component video is defined by the CEA specification, CEA-770.3-rev C. The spec was last revised five years ago, and defines 720p and 1080i, but not1080p. Even in the absence of a standard, however, 1080p component video has made its way into a surprising amount of consumer devices. Several display manufacturers support 1080p over component video, either across the line such as Samsung, or as an undocumented feature on certain models such as Syntax/Brillian’s. Many networked media players, such as those from PixelMagic Systems and Ziova, will output 1080p via component, as will Media Center PCs. However, the most significant source devices are the major gaming consoles, with both the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 supporting 1080p analog. |

QUOTE(THEALB10N @ Dec 16 2009, 06:54 PM) I just checked my cable and it says RG 6/U on the outside. Does that mean I have to replace it or is it OK for astroHD? It is about 10 years old by the way. some old rg-6 cable I encountered will have its aluminium shielding deteriorated into pieces, thus not providing proper shielding, if your cable condition is still good, then negotiate with the installer to leave it alone.better cable have quad shielding, I think astro is using double layer shielding only |

search HDCP lettering on your HDTV, otherwise there will be no HD channel display.

rg59 has inferior shielding, in fact only 1 layer, signal will get attenuated over long cable run, not suitable for satellite dish
get rg6 |
