so exactly i just have to add RM20 to get the new decoder?

i already subscribed to movie, documentary, sports package, so i do got those new HD channels without any additional cost (except for the RM20) right?
*
yes..the cost is only for the HD not the package. packages still follows ur initial subscription. just remember to tune in to the correct hd channel and not the old sd channel number to view it smile.gif

Just got my Byond installed. I called them on the first day of launch, but there were a few more calls to confirm, terms & conditions and appointment with installer.

Quality really nice, but now I don't feel like watching any of those non-HD channels. A bit not used to the people not looking "fat" at first. Hahaha...

I stay in Seri Kembangan and I got a good installer. Nice chap that came with his wife. Quite chatty and very pleasant fellow.

Seri Kembangan just beside Astro head office....sure can get B.yond fast mah tongue.gif

Errr.. got, but like not so nice to give out here. Anyway, the installers are assigned by Astro. Even if you call, they can't do it without an order from Astro. He said the demand is pretty strong now, but they're working back to back to go through the queue.

Hi..

I already install Astro Byond at my house yesterday..

So far, picture quality in HD channels are superb even the HDMI cable look like chap ayam brand... hehehe..

But, my only problem is with the volume... when i watch SD channels, the volume will be so slow, i have to increase the volume from my hi-fi to 20.. but, when i change to any HD channels, the volume will be so loud, i have to decrease the volume to 10.

I've try to use the volume button at the Astro Byond remote control, but nothing happen.. i can't control the volume using the Astro Byond remote.. i have to use my hi-fi remote to control the volume..

So far, i did not call Astro yet regarding this problem..

Anyone out there facing same problem with me? Any solution??

*
i have the same volume problem , the volume button on the remote does nothing . The HDMI cable provided by ASTRO does look cheap . I will try to snap some photo`s later.

Yes, he said on a good day, he can do more than a dozen. He can work faster too on homes where the RG6 cables are ready. Also, easier for him if the dish is not too high.

And someone earlier mentioned that Astro customer service said these guys are working over weekend. This is also true. The guy said he hasn't gotten any rest at all and foresees working everyday for quite some time.

He is also trying to be efficient by grouping the orders and covering by areas, so if they call you, try to make time as they might not go back to your area until several days later.

The one came to my hse (Klang) said 20 in 3 days! Work day/nite. More 20,000 already apllied.
HBO HD not so gd(depend on master), DD5.1 through my Pioneer AVR lousy(watch Batman), Astro must do some upgrading. If opt out for DD5.1 no sound through HDMI (TV) for HD channels, only through amp, other channels ok (dont know why).

Mine was done on the weekend also , someone from my area cancelled the appointment and the technician called me ask if he can come immediately , i was okie with it and he came within 30 min to fix it . Took him less than 30 min to fix the dish and activate the card .

The Byond remote control can be calibrated to be used as your TV remote (on/off, volume & channels) based on TV code provided in your guide.

A few grouses about the OS and remote:

1. The TV codes provided in the Installation Guide to allow Byond remote control with your TV is just a pain in the ass. It doesn't tell which model of TV works with which code, Astro expects us to try one by one. Such a hassle.

2. There seems to be a max to the number of channels you can assign as favorites. I wonder why. I was a fan of favorites in the old interface since it allows me to skip those channels I can't watch.

3. Even if you assign favorites, it doesn't remember that you want to use these favorites in screens where they apply. For example, if you want to view Info for favorite channels only, you have to specifically press the green button to change to Fav, otherwise all channels are displayed.

4. Even if you change to display only Fav's, the channels are all jumbled up and not sorted properly in both Info and Channel Guide. A bit weird.

5. The screen similar to previous Info view allows going back and forth to see what other channels are showing, but if no key press detected for a few seconds, it disappears. It's a bit annoying if you are doing it halfway and stop for awhile and when you do it again, you have to start from the channel you're watching now.

Minor annoyances, but still feels like a step back given the old interface is smart enough to use the favorites in most places. I have a feeling this will be fixed in future updates as there is a "fav" button in the remote that doesn't seem to be doing anything right now. Or maybe I just don't know how to use. I'm always too lazy to read manuals ;-D

The good thing is that the OS is very good at mutitasking now. When accessing some menu's for example, the channel is still playing in the background or in small preview windows. It's also much easier to channel surf now, which makes up for the less-usable favorites management.

Personally I am not sooo convince about paying a standard RM20 fee every month. It feels like a ripp off when u are on a low package customer. not the mention the channels are repeatable programs as usual.

I am sticking with my SD until then...

I got a call on Saturday (19 Dec) from Astro asking me if I want to upgrade? And I said "yes"!

And yesterday ...the installer call to set time... and today ... complete the installation ...wow! Super efficient!
