Overview

On the 27th November 2009, NightRaven and clon22 traveled all the way from Singapore to Malaysia for an OverClocking Meet with local OC Enthusiast. It was a one of a kind OverClocking gathering between 2 countries. Together we gathered to learn and share our OverClocking/Tweaking knowledge and also tried to beat the current Malaysia OverClocking Records together. Before this gathering was able to materialize, there were plenty of hiccups along the way. LN2 was the main issue. The price for LN2 in Malaysia is rather affordable if you have your own dewar. We were quoted RM 35,000 to loan a 160 Liter dewar. Luckily coolice has a 30 Liter dewar. Therefore we had no choice but to fill the LN2 dewar on Thursday (Friday was a public holiday, Hari Raya Haji) and refilled it on Saturday. Secondly, we had bad luck with the chips. All together we had three pieces of Ci7 860 for the gathering. But none could go lower than -60 degree. And provided with single HD5870 and GTX 275 graphic cards, it was really a challenge to take down all the Malaysia Futuremark Records. Fortunately MSI was really kind to sponsor the gathering with such a short notice. Long story short, let the pictures do the talking. By the way, i'm a noob cameraman, so do bare with me with the quality of the pictures taken.

Successful Malaysia OverClocking Records Broken

These Malaysia OverClocking Records may not be the actual record as there are possibility that some OverClockers do have backup scores or did not upload it to HWBot or Lowyat.NET.
For the Malaysia OverClocking Records, we referred to both Lowyat.NET and HWBot database. Which ever has the highest score was taken as the benchmark for our attempt. As this gathering was a one day event, we just concentrated on raw power to get the score without tweaking. As for the MSI HD5870, cooling it with LN2 did not help much. On stock cooling we were able to run it on 1040MHz core, 1300MHz memory. On LN2 (-10 to -20 degree) we pushed to core to 1071MHz which we believed can be done using water cooling. However, we did not prepare for water cooling solution. We managed to break Super Pi 32M, Futuremark 3DMark03, 3DMark05 and 3DMark Vantage followed by Aquamark. The most disappointing failed attempt was the FutureMark 3DMark06 which was short of around 100 points. The current highest score was found in Lowyat.NET belonging to NightRaven himself with a Geforce 9800GX2. As for Futuremark 3DMark01, clon22 brought his C2D 8500 which was capable of 5.92GHz on Asus Rampage but unfortunately we only managed to OverClock it to 5.0GHz with the MSI P45 Neo2. Futuremark 3DMark01 is a CPU dependent (the higher clockspeed the better) benchmark, therefore C2D is better than Ci7. We managed to break the Pifast record as well but coolice accidentally deleted the screen shot. To sum it up, we used air, LN2 and Dry Ice cooling depending on how high we need to clock just to beat the records. We didn't waste any time to achieve the highest score possible for each benchmark.

Aftermath

After the day, we headed to Taman Mayang, Petaling Jaya to Restaurant 88 which was decided by me. Only after half an hour of discussion "Where to eat?" NightRaven and clon22 were quite happy with the food there. Although we managed to break some of the records, but we did it the hard way mainly due to lack of preparation. Our OS preparation totally suck. Anyway, we are happy with the gathering as we achieved the most important thing, which is fellowship between Singapore and Malaysia OverClockers. Just in case any of you are not aware, both NightRaven and clon22 are currently Singapore's top OverClocker, dominating local OC Competitions and HWBot.

Special Thanks

Firstly we would like to thank MSI Malaysia for sponsoring the event event within such a short notice. It was always great collaborating with MSI Malaysia. Thanks for your faith in us as always. Special mention to NightRaven and clon22 who forked out their own pocket money for the trip just for this gathering. We apologize for the lack of preparation. The gathering won't be successful without such OverClocking Spirit.

OC4/3: this is the last time i would like to make myself clear and please grow up and be mature. please, understand it for one last time (i believe i repeated myself that this is a closed event) and drop your attitude already. And this post is in respond to your post in OCXtreme that really pushed my patience to the limit.

Firstly, and i repeat myself again. This is a closed event. You come when you are invited. This is the first event which i decided it to be closed because judging from previous open overclocking event, it didn't turn out to be as expected. and you didn't participated any of it.

The reason Lacus (according to you is non-ocer) is invited is that i make myself very clear to him that i really need a helper for that event. And he willingly helped and i'm really happy he was around. And as a side note, Jonesy was the 'driver' for the event. If there's a person to complain about this gathering is rightfully hilmiangah. Initially he was invited too as a helper but due to space constrain, i decided only Lacus will be invited.

I really thought that this is a very small event and i was really shocked when you reacted in such a way after i explained it to you in MSN.

PS: In short, it's simple as that. You are not invited to an event. In long, read above.
