If the viewing distance is more than 9 feet, with a 50" HDTV, do we really need 1080p because as far as I know with 1080p and 50" size, one should sit closer about 1.5 times of the diagonal screen size in order to fully utilize the advantage of 1080p. I'm judging between these as the cost difference is significant - it's around 1.5k to 2k gap not sure it's really worth it to have a 1080p

That is only a recommendation. No necessary fit everyone. For myself, since I got blu-ray player and a FullHD TV and size =>42" is a must. whistling.gif

From a distance of 9ft, I'd say the hd-ready and full-hd 50" plasma will not yield any difference in terms of details, unless you have super sharp eagle eyes. But, depending on your materials (more 1080p than 720p), and if the price difference (of rm1k) is no big deal to you, then go for the 1080p. Personally, i have a panny 50" hd-ready, and i am quite happy with the pic from about 9ft away. Of course, with a full-hd display and br materials, you can always sit real close to the tv (5ft?) and enjoy the full glory of 1080p.

For me, Yes. But again, different ppl got different answer. Why?, because everybody got different eye's sight. So, for those got very good or good eye's sight, their are easier noted the different than those have no so good eye's sight. (Just an example). blush.gif

Just imaging, those who can read very small letters during eye's sight test, arn't you thing their can spot the different between 1080p and 720p easier than those only can read normal or big letters during eye's sight test?

The only difference is when U are reading text on screen. The rest, even with 20/20 eyesight I doubt U can spot the difference. biggrin.gif

I'm using HD ready only Plasma 42inch.

Difference between 720p and 1080p is not much...my the real estate used is more than double.

For some movies, 720p looks more natural than 1080p. 1080p adds that sharp look to outline of images. With 1080p can see more makeup on for actors as well. Reflection on water also is sharp which makes it look a bit unnatural.

But take note also, ppl always category movies into 720p or 1080p but actually, those are home brewed...a 720p movie can have more bitrates than a 1080p file.

Time factor is another thing, some of us watch movies at 2am in the morning, half awake, I doubt can spot any difference.

Plasma and LCD TV also have 'engine' that enhance video so if you wanna compare 720p and 1080p, better to do so on a Computer LCD screen that has none of the frills of a HDTV.

My advice...get the 1080p HDTV...if the price not much difference...at least you'll be satisfied you got yourself the best toys you can afford.

if the difference is only 10-20% between 720p and 1080p TVs, I would go with the higher rez version... getting extra 1million more pixels at 10-20% difference is a no brainer..

then it's a harder choice...

1366x768 (not 1080p) Pioneer Kuro looks very good from where I always sit (in mpyw's main sofa) .. so maybe 1366x768 50inch Kuro better than FHD S10 panny... biggrin.gif
