Hi y'all, made my first post here. I'm Vince and just had some few questions of my guinea pigs.

Here are Mikey (pronouce as Mee-key) and Lily. They were 2 months+ old.

I'm trying to build a C&C cage for my lovely piggies though they were living in a normal rabbit cage now (though I felt bad for them).

1. Coroplast seems to be an easy material to find but they seems to be pre-cut already, so anyone knows where I can find the wholesale version of coroplast so that I do not need to combine then physically for each of coroplast.

2. And if #1 is succeed, I was thinking of magic carpet (heard of it?) to be as bedding, how about that?

3. Except in Daiso, anyone knows where I can find relevant cubes. (Though cubes in Daiso were planting cubes for gardening).

Thanks for the response though! smile.gif

for huge huge uncut cloroplast u can find it at Taman Mayang or any Art shop wholesaler!! ^^
*
Hmm means only limited shops have it, though I'm not living in town city, so might not able to find it, but I'll try.

2. Magic carpet? Is it fleece u are refering to?
3. Cubes are extremely hard to find in malaysia. And somemore it cost abit expensive too. But we have a few forumers here have a DIY C&C that use the oven metal grill as the cube. I think the picture is at the previous version.
*
2. Is it? I only heard it many times fleece but never seen it so don't know, well magic carpet is at Jusco or Parkson.
3. I was seeing some metal cubes in Daiso (for RM5 each of course) ranges from 33cm x 33cm to 33cm x 55cm so I'm thinking it might help.

imvinceong:
where urs location.. coroplast as said can be obtain from art work wholeseller.. so u jus got to look around..

how this magic carpet look like and wat is it function...
metal "cube" from daiso is mean for kitchen wares..
*
In melaka, hmm art work wholeseller lol, where could it be, gift shops probably? art work as in doing painting? Livin cabin? Lovely Lace?

Well don't "they" (metal gardening cubes) look almost similar and performs almost similar functionality at Daiso? I guess it's the best bet I can find, quality was okay for a DIY-cage.

Go to Jusco, go to kitchen & appliance department where all the tuplewares are and somewhere near the hanging clothes stick and toilet mats, then look for magic carpets which they come from packing type and also one big roll type as you can ask the sales assistant to cut it for you how long you want it.

Yea well the metal cubes in Daiso are for gardening mainly used in hanging utensils so they can said it's strong, just like the fences for a normal rabbit cage.

Yeap! You've got me. I wonder if that suits for guinea pigs.

Tis magic carpet ah... I think partly can la.. If whole cage be a problem.. One it is not absorbent so ur C&C may get banjir.. If ur pig aint toilet train..
Two,it is quite expensive..but if u can afford..then so be it
Three,d poo might got stuck in d gap...
Chamyk:
Congrat... Whose d father..

Yes right though these mats have small little hole so it's not good.

Pictars please XD i wanna see the big fat tummy XD congrats biggrin.gif
C&C cubes very hard to find here sad.gif but you can DIY with other things. The last time there was sighting of the cubes were in Tesco, it goes really fast =/

Added on March 5, 2010, 9:58 am
That material is not good for GPs smile.gif its not absorbent also the nails if long, can get stuck to it. Fleece for everyone that is looking for it, can be found at Home & Harmony, or Jusco (bedding section) and also Ikea. Sometimes carrefour all those hypermarkets also got sell.

The metal cubes @ Daiso can be used to make C&C, you can use cable ties to construct them together. I think someone here used that method before i just cant remember who~  sweat.gif
*
Ah okay, will definitely look for it and majority were using it so yes.

Well the cubes which is 33cm x 33cm for RM5 aren't cheap too if your cage is big.

QUOTE(hermozo09 @ Mar 5 2010, 10:24 AM)
last time i couldn't find de metal cube so i resorted to BBQ grill instead! it works fine for me so mebbe u can try it

hmm any idea for the C&C base coz i build one already and it seems empty and i dont wish to use the wood shavings bedding. By the way anyone who wish to build their c&c the cubes or grid can be purchased at 100yen store, search the web for their branches.

They are plastic not heavy but very durable and cost rm4.90 per piece 10 x 16 inches.
*

Hi.. I think fleece will be better, I don't recommend the brown shavings which they will only make your cage dirty and messy, I guess hay alternatively can be bedding or maybe a hay rack.

About the grids, I guess the ordinary BBQ grill or cook grill is the best bet for a Malaysian C&C cage, since they were stainless steel and it's cheap too (RM2.90 for 10" x 10" in Jusco, maybe even cheaper in hardware shop), they comes in different sizes too, well don't buy the thick and heavy BBQ grill which then will cost you about RM16.90 for about 10" x 14", just the normal one will do.

bbq grills are heavy this plastic is kinda light and doesnt rust anyway is an option for other owners to decide since there are few choices but both of them are way cheaper than owning a default pet store cage.

It only cost me around rm55 for the entire c&c cage whereby this size in pet store cages cost around rm 188 or more.
*

Any materials that resemble cubes should be fine, the most important thing is stable, firm and rust-free. Well the default pet cages are suitable for all small animals but C&C cage is uniquely-designed just for guinea pigs.

Yup oat hay very nice.. Smell great.. next time u can try botanical hay.. Smell even nicer..
Today jus giv my two gals a check up at dr. Jenny.. My choco is down with mange mites.. Shoot with ivermertin .. Hopefully will heal asap..
gal gal havin normal mites.. Shot with revolution..
Total rm 56 as i bought a tube of revolution..
Haiz.. Pity seeing choco keep on scratching .. Is there a way to stop it from scratching?
*

I wondered if those local flowery hay that sold in square packets (can be found in almost all pet shop, old shop specifically) are good for guinea pigs? They were some cheap local hay I guess. The thing is that they have its smell which is different from branded hay. So..?

QUOTE(nicknicknick @ Mar 21 2010, 02:36 AM)
the main reason why it is so popular is because is expandable and fits in any condition size and cheap xp

uhm wanna ask how to calm a female guinea pig ? i just bought her back around 1mths old+ she very shy and scared as if living in fears. I tried petting her carrying her and even give her a nice warm water bathe n wrapping her in towels after drying her up. But she still seems very scared of her surrounding and doesnt even want to come out from the house i made for her until i need to carry her out and put her near the food only she stays eating and goes back in the house after that.
*

About the sexing, female guinea pig which is also called sow has a Y-shaped of genital and also the top middle part is indented, however a male guinea pig or a boar has a "i-shaped genital and easily can identify by notify if the top middle part is facing outward or beveled.

Well I guess most of guinea pigs will definitely felt scared when they were at young age, so that's something common and logical so don't worry about it. My advice is don't carry them out so frequently at the young age which then you will only give them a phobia since they are small and your hand is big so it's make sense however.

hahaha she sure freak out lol...dun worry she'll manage and adapt...XD

how old is she? better dun put male together with her in early age, if that male is 'hyper', she might get even more stress and might pregnant underage...better get her a female fren, she will be happier lol if you really want a male gp, its suitable to introduce to her when she is 4 month or higher.

well i'm just giving out my opinion, the choice of her companion is up to you.
*

I have a 3 months+ boar and a newly-welcome 1 month sow, I don't worry much about it since both of them get used it easily, play around and even the boar prurring when I take the sow out of cage.

Just got my commercial-type coroplast, it's 8ft x 4 ft for RM60 and luckily they trim it to my desired size for me. I can recommend the advertising shop if anyone in Melaka is looking for it, and I also got the BBQ grill from Jusco. Building my C&C now, see ya. smile.gif

Okay done!

50" x 28" white colour. I don't use fleece, I use the less-wool carpet at the moment, still thinking about the bedding. Actual 3mm coroplast and stainless steel BBQ grills.

Nicely done... But dont forget a toilet area.. If not i bet ur bedding of the cars is gonna be gone in 3 days.. Lol.. The trick to ask them to go use the toilet is u cover d toilet top a bit ...like build a roof under d toilet.. They will and might sleep there though but most of d time they will do their business there and ur house/tent for d guinea pig is also coroplast right? They will flip it over in no time.. Lol..mine did it do.. And d end i jus removed them..
And do clip ur fleece to the base.. If not they will try to pull it out of place with they mouth and go under it..anyway kudos on d cage..very nice indeed..
*

Oh okay thanks for the idea, yea now I'm combining their poops at one area hoping they will observe that place for pooping. Yes that's the coroplast hand-made house, I cable-tie tied it up so won't get destroy by them. Hmm I'm using carpet at the moment, so the material is thick and heavy, I want to see how long can it last for the pee smell.

QUOTE(orion18 @ Mar 25 2010, 08:19 AM)
nice cage ....  rclxms.gif
i used to do mine like that..but they poo everywhere... at the toilet only 50% sad.gif

anyway, now i am using a dog [3 feet by 2feet] and line it with bathroom mat..
i just have to clean the tray and bathroom mat!

very clean and they do not get urine or poo.... though occasionally when their poois too big tongue.gif
*

Thanks! Ya that's actually normal, collect and clean the poop to make sure the cage is clean and they are clean too else stepping their own poop and laying down on the wet pee area. That is the normal rabbit cage I assumed which I think the most convenience cage ever since there's tray so much useful, just throw the newspaper and replace with new one.
