By end of this year, I intend to put my gps cages in grass area. Hence I don't need to worry about the smelly pee and poo, don't have to clean so frequent. That's my ultimate plan after I terminate my maid's contract.

How nice if I could put them all there without cages, but quite dangerous to do that, because my neighbourhood has lots of cats!

Sometimes could be the hay you bought not so fresh, that's why they don't like.

I must say that most of the petshops sell those hays are so dried and unfresh.

Today my Peruvian SOW given birth to 3 babies. Finally I got the color I wanted, grey and white Peruvian!

Agree, for 2 female to mix with a male is easy, not much to worry about.

Even for my 2 male new Sheltie to mix with a female Peru also no problem. As long as they are below 4 months old, 2 male won't fight agressively yet.

Now I am shortage of drinking bottle & cage, so these 2 boys have to live together for a while until the maternity SOW back to her own cage.

She is definitely a pretty girl. I like her too, initially wanted to keep her but since you asked for it, let you have her. Hehehe....no regret, at least sell her to you then I get to buy new Sheltie, the Chinchilla color one. My 2 senior adult Sheltie not productive for so long, that's why I need to add in young male with different colours.

Wow..14! So that means you have to give out nearly 1/2 of your short fur gps away?

Added on February 2, 2010, 12:54 pmI have 1 sheltie sow just pregnant, gosh...I don't know who is the father to be, not sure is a Sheltie or Peruvian. I have been putting her in different cages, until I also forgotten which is which. Will see how the babies turn out. If the father is Peruvian, then wonder will the babies look like Coronet.

Next coming up batch of babyboom SOWs, are:-

Brindle color Peruvian - due in mid Feb (expecting pure Peruvian babies)
Tri-color Abby - due in mid Feb (expecting pure Abby babies)
Agouti Abby - due in mid March (expecting Hybrid Abby babies)
Tri-color Sheltie - due in mid March (expecting possible Sheltie babies)

I think better don't use Frontline. It may be too strong for a gp, I afraid the gp will lick its fur, then got poison by it. Imagine the size of gp and the dog, so much difference, you can never predict the right dose.

As long as there is no fighting, it is ok to put them together. The sound of "purr" is just gp communication language to another gp. Usually a senior and a junior can get along well for the same sex. As I mentioned before, if the gp is already above 4 months old, and you put a same age same sex gp in there together with it, then may not be ok. Especially male, 10 out of 9 will fight. As for female, 10 out 2 will fight subject to dominant personality.

Well...most likely your hay already not fresh, had dried up. You cannot sprinkle water on hay, it does not help. Honestly, keeping hay fresh is not an easy task. Never put your hay under sunlight area, it will turn yellow very fast too. Rule of thumb is, never greedy..don't buy too big packet if you only have 1 or 2 gps.

No need too worry about the fur around face, the face part, won't grow overly long. See picture below. I like Peruvian messy hairstyle, looks like just woke up from the bed.

As for the butt got matt, once you use the conditional shampoo, it will easily dematt that part.

This afternoon, my precious Chinchilla color gp escaped out from the cage, my dogs kept barking. At that time I was taking a nap...luckily I woke up and check, and found him hiding behind the cage, and my dogs surrounded him there. Phew...what a relief! If I didn't wake up to check, it may have been killed by my dogs, as they would play rough towards him, imagined 6 dogs surrounded him.

Today went to my regular petshop, wanted to buy guinea pig pellets. The shopkeeper told me Hagen brand is going to increase price again. And now no stocks until after CNY.

If the price gap is going to close to Oxbow, then I will switch to Oxbow totally. After all Oxbow is better quality than Hagen. Really weird, nowadays, more people keeping guinea pigs than 5 years ago, but the Hagen food pellets keep increasing price, economical of scale theory didn't work for Hagen. Continue like that, gp price will also increase sooner or later, is a matter of chain reaction.

Yesterday sold off the last one of tri-color Shebby.

Last week I bought a pair of black and white Abbyruvian from a petshop nearby my house. I like Abbyruvian more than Abby, becaue its fur will spike like a hedgehog in some parts of the body. Reason because Abby fur is very rough, and Peruvian fur quite soft and long, so the Abbyruvian is the combination of both gene.

This pair is only 1 month old. Last 2 weeks I saw them in the petshop, their fur not so visible, so I didn't buy. Last week I saw them again still in petshop, but their fur are getting longer. And I saw the shop was selling them as an Abby price. So I grab!

I name the male as "Black Jack" and female as "Patches". As they are sibling, I do not want to put them together, so I will house Patches together with Snowy, until her future official husband is born. As for the "Black Jack", will wait for his future bride to be born.

Well depending on the babies condition, 3-4 weeks can separate from their mum, if they already reached a flat palm's size of your hand. But since your SOW given birth to 4 babies, may be at best you let them separate from the mom at 4-5 weeks old instead of 3 weeks. That is because the babies were born much smaller size than those 1-2 litters.

Sometimes a swirl do happen on the head part of an Abby, may look like botak. If it is fungal spot, then you can try to apply some herbal oil (neem oil) on that spot.

Yeah...I have found a cheaper hay supplier, even the alfafa hay is already chopped shorter, no long hardy branches, much easier for my piggies to eat too.

Quite fresh, my piggies love them. Even got alfafa pellets too.
