Hi,

I am considering HTC Desire as a replacement of my 2 years Nokia E71. Before purchase, I have some questions:

1. What is the market price for an original HTC Desire?

2. I have read somewhere (Gsmarena.com I think) that Android apps are installed onto the RAM in the phone itself rather than on the SD card on Android 2.1 Eclair. Can we somehow change this or we can only save to the SD card on Android 2.2 onwards?

3. Will we be able to upgrade to future Android new releases? Say Android 2.3 and 2.4 in future?

Thank you.

Hi faizpsp89,

When you say yes we can upgrade the Android OS, does that mean that all buyers are allowed to freely upgrade their OS without voiding warranty?

Sorry, one more noob question, what is rooting? Is it upgrading Android OS?

I am not sure if other region got Desire earlier than we did in Malaysia but are there any actual owners in Malaysia yet? How's the phone? What do you like the most / hate the most about it?

I see a few places putting up price but dunno if they have the actual unit. Speculations of price and AP prices are all around.

I also want to buy, how long more must wait? Exclusively to Maxis? I am Maxis user but nowadays, not sure if this is a good deal as people say Maxis unlimited internet offer is not as competitive as Digi.

Using Android would also mean spending a lot of time online. Either via Wifi, 3G or GPRS (not sure if there are any other means of connectivity). If Maxis get to sell Desire exclusively, that would mean we got to sign a package with them? Which is cheapest yet enable us to surf net and all?

I dont know about the majority of you, despite the RM200 save is very tempting for AP set. But what if its a RM1750 loss? I am not doubting the shop but I am just waiting for it to be released in the next 2 days... Count down 48 hours.

I am contemplating whether or not to go KLCC for lunch tomorrow just to get this phone. Will be checking back on and off at work. Hopefully they have a lot of stock for this!

Because I anti Samsung. Never brought any of their products, even on CRT - rather go with Viewsonic.

Hence, with all the hype, will we all be at KLCC for the Desire launch today? Hope they have plenty of stock, might come from Putrajaya during lunch.

Ok guys, here are some update from Maxis, dial 123.

1. The website has not been updated with Android HTC Desire phone.
2. First 200 customers will get a car charger worth RM100
3. Road show starts at 10:30am - 9:30pm today
4. The price of Desire is confirmed at RM1,499 with the Maxis data plans of 500MB, 1.5GB and 3GB. (I was advised to sign up for the lowest data plan as the contract is 12 months, downgrading will be penalize but upgrading will not.)
5. No deposit required.
6. Warranty is 2 years by the retailers / Maxis Center that is listed in the Desire box.
7. If you do not know where is the road show, you can go to Maxis Center KLCC to ask.
8. I heard the customer service mentioned about Mikimoto. Hence, I think the booth will be setup in front of Mikimoto inside KLCC.

i really cant wait anymore!!!
month end salary just arrived... timing ngam ngam tongue.gif

btw will the phone sim lock to Maxis?
*
Yes, timing is just nice for everyone. They purposely wait for end month so as soon as ppl receive their salary, they pay them to MAxis for Desire. Smart idea!

I doubt the sim lock. Most phones dont have sim lock, not even the iPhone when it first launched with Maxis. Dont worry.

Hmm.. time to swipe CC... or do u think they only accept cash?
*
I am sure got CC la. So many crazy ppl walk with 1.5k meh??? Else, you have to queue for ATM first, then queue for Desire!

@ bold : only subscribe to Data plan ? No need to subscribe rate plan ?
*
Rate plan min is RM50 Value Plan.

QUOTE(KTCY @ May 27 2010, 10:09 AM)
Oh well sad.gif
That doesn't sound good as I recall Maxis Data plan within contract, they will simply charge you. RM 50 call plan is fine for me actually.
*
Check your bills so they wont simply charge you and there is a data usage counter application for android so you dont have to worry.

Where is the booth?

If you come to the area with KFC and burger king, take the escalator (near information counter) up one floor and then go right to Mikimoto. You should be able to see the Desire phone booth there.

gosh... the only reason that makes me rush to klcc is only for the car charger?!?!  rclxub.gif

And be one of the earlier owners of Desire. The earlier you get it onto your palm, the better yes?

QUOTE(LEVIATHAN @ May 27 2010, 02:39 PM)
I won't fall to the same trap again you f***ing HTC! I want the promises 2.1 lanjio. I hope you with Desire won't need to wait for Froyo just liek Hero wait for Eclair.

Good luck.

WAh, I sense a lot of anger here... Are you a HTC Hero user?

I am hoping to get a screen protector before anything else. Will it cause Desire to lose sensitivity?
