i found inconsistency...where chinapress article on this issue...

the terms they used....will lead to an understanding of...

the RM50 service tax will only impose to Free-for-life card....not those with annual fee...

inconsistent info now...better wait for more clarification.

Let's look at it this way ... the official copy of the speech and the article in thestar stated that the RM50 service tax applies to all credit cards.
Even earlier on there was a statement from a banker in OCBC where he was concerned about this RM50 service fee - OCBC have no FFL cards you know.

RM 100 will be charged to you. The calculations for the service fee depends on how many primary cards you hold - even if you hold 10 cards but 1 combine limit, you'll be charged as per card (RM500) and not 1service fee. You don't have to pay as a supplementary card holder but your principal would need to bear it for you.

Since you bought it up ... yeah it can be a little confusing for this card. Likely by virtue of one of its feature as a credit card it will be imposed the service fee. However, I think freezing new applications was due to the over popularity of the card itself - the bank could have freaked out seeing how people were structuring their spending to be only on Fridays and maxed out the rebate quickly.

Hahahaha ... biggrin.gif

Some question need to ask here, how about some card offer Free for the first year, subsequent year swipe a minimum of 24 times to get annual fee waived (eg Eon Bank Matta Card), if I swipe 24 times at second year and the fee waived, should I still pay the service charge of RM 50?

Please help, thank you...

Waiting for the CIMB DA to adjust the RM200 petrol back to the original bill amount, then I'll pay my cc bill. Then after I pay the cc bill, I'll cancel my card.

Simplesmile: for credit card only middle -low class been milked.
bcos for rich they got 27% reduce to 26%. that's more than enough for them to pay 10 credit card tax already. but middle class... dont even reach the 27% taxable amount. and dont have much properties as well... not much trading on it as well.

QUOTE(simplesmile @ Oct 25 2009, 01:17 AM)
Believe me, prudent spending is just an excuse to mask their real reasons or intentions.
When the country was just starting to fall into recession, Govt keep saying "our economy is resilient, US subprime crisis won't affect Malaysia".
When the Government will defer projects in Pakatan states and say because Government no money. You think the Govt really have no money?
You trust what the Government says?
The real reason for taxing on the credit cards is because the Govt wants to tax, but don't want to affect poor people. So... how to tax the middle income and the rich? Raise the income tax rate? No way,.. this will surely kick them out during next General Election. So.. what do middle income and high income people have? Properties and credit cards. So... bring back the RPGT and tax credit card holders. You think the govt really wants to encourage prudent spending? There are other more effective ways to encourage prudent spending as suggested by other forumers.

Bottom line is, this RPGT and service tax on credit cards are designed to MILK the middle income and high income.

true, that RM1000 extra tax-relief doesn't seem a lot too.

Yes. You will still need to pay RM50 because the RM50 is going to the government pocket, not the bank's.

@MilesandMore

wow, this is a get rich quick scheme for the government. We only can choose pay to bank or government, bank charge some annual fee of RM60+ for a classic card (gold and plat card even more) , and government charge RM 50 fixed, so in the end the people prefer pay to government and they become rich.

I still not understand. do we need to cancel before 1st January 2010? if I'm not mistaken the fee will be imposed the month when we suppose to 'renew' the card (including the standard annual fees). so I think still safe to keep the card 2-3 months before that date

When it was last implemented ... the service fee was charged @ the anniversary of the card. However ... that was then, so don't flame me if something else happen. Anyway, why bother taking the risk ? If you are able to cancel the card already then do so before the service fee get charged!
