QUOTE(liptonpc @ Dec 6 2009, 12:37 AM) Panasonic 42" LCD TH-L42S10K ^^ srr mistake. Later you will see many personal comments and make you even confused. LCD or Plasma is still ok. but it depend price ^^ but must have full HD. Do u have any advice? Better write down your most concern aspect to least concern and then compared these two models and check which one meet majority of your concern and choice that one. Case closed. |

im using samsung LA40B530, love it especially the design. dynamic contrast ratio is 60000:1 compare to pana is 20000:1 which is quite low for lcd nowadays.

I have dilemma over these 2 models too...end up with Panny Plasma P42S10K (Full HD) instead.
Despite with higher power consumption & more heat release, I choose plasma because of it's natural color & most important is the Easy to Eye. Weekend normally watch long hours of TV, this help alot. Knowing that LCD is brighter then Plasma, it will definately hurt if watch for long hour - especially for kid. So far, the heat thing is truely hot, that is if you are in front of the TV 1 ft away. But you won't watch TV from 1 ft away from a 42" TV right, so, it's not a issue even the living hall has not affected by the heat & the color is just too good for me. The easy to eye thing is true, comparing to my old CRT TV, after watching for 4 hours, it strain my eyes, this Plasma is very good, after 6 hours of watching, I will still continue. Please strike off contrast ratio as one of the specs you use in your consideration.
Even more so when it's dynamic contrast ratio. They're marketing jargon and advertising speak to cram more big numbers into the spec sheet. |

No. 1 consideration for getting a plasma or LCD is the lighting condition.. are planning to set it up in a dark or brighter place?

if you are willing to spend the extra 300-400 to get the L42S10, it should be the better buy.
I had the same dilemma as you 4 months ago. End up going with the Samsung to save cost. I have a very small living room so no big deal to have a smaller display. I so far have no regrets except the size is obviously smaller. but that is not a valid complaint since I made the choice with eyes wide open. Also a note of caution is that Japanese FHD displays of this generation does not accept 1920x1080 over VGA / DVI. The only way they can accept full hd signal is via hdmi @ 1080p. My HTPC does not have HDMI output only VGA and component. So you may have to consider this. |
