I have both. and i'd say both has its pros and cons. If astro going HD tomorrow, i'd stick to LCD or LED. But then...... best to have 2.LOL...

I vote for LCD TV... because it's more cheaper and more light than Plasma TV... Power consumption for LCD TV also lower than Plasma.

For 3K below, the panel they use for the LCD is not so good and suffers from unnatural colors & limited viewing angle...from my personal point of view.
Wanna buy LCD better get higher grade models.

Go for Panny Plasma TH-P42S10K...FullHD and price is close to Rm3000
Here is selling it cheap...much cheaper than Jusco or Senq:
http://www.jintexelectronics.com

Some of the forummers here also sell these stuff, maybe they will PM you later.

Assuming you can get both in Full HD 1080p. ( make sure of this)

If you place this in an area with lots of windows, go for LCD. If less, go for Plasma.

LCD have reach a level where the black is really good. And even more sports or fast motion movies, LCD can really do a good job now. Plasma used to win these areas hands down.

LCD with LED is even better black performance but the price is not lower than 3k yet. This will take a while.

Also, as mentioned, Plasma is heavier and take more power consumption. LCD is lighter and if you plan to get a wall bracket, can get those cheaper one around RM250 to hang it on the call. ( this type can swirl ) and it can handle 40-46 inch plasma/LCD too actually. smile.gif

Samsung 5 series LCD TV is full hd and now selling less than 3k. A good performer indeed. I'm using this one. So far, so good.

I think you will never get exact answer from here and I doubt that you will even more confused after you doing this vote. laugh.gif

This vote will probably open a thread to fans for Plasma and LCD to debate again...and... again. blush.gif never ending... tongue.gif

agree with Joe, I also bought Samsung Plasma B650 and people are impressed with the picture quality than LCD.
Even my wife bro is hunting for same units after comparing few models between LCD and Plasma.
My wife parents house using Sony Bravia LCD having line problems when watching Astro.

Get a plasma for sure
im not a expert or something, but in my house we have bought 4 flat screen TV b4, 2 plasma and 2 LCD (now only 2 left)
the burn in issue for plasma has been over-critised.
get a 42" plasma under RM3500, thats the best i could think of for gaming.

My friend just got the Samsung 40B530 model. When compare to Pana P42S10K:

* WDTV - Natural color (Pana P42S10K)
* PS3 - More vibrant and better contrast (Samsung 40B530)
* ASTRO - Better up-scaling (Pana P42S10K)
* DVD - Better up-scaling (Pana P42S10K)
* Blu-ray - Dont know yet

Better off with Pana P42S10k (SenQ - RM3150 - 3 YEARS Waranty) compare Samsung 40B530 (SenQ - RM2900 - 3 Years warranty)

I believe you are looking for Sub-field Drive. In Plasma, their don't use motion engine or whatever to called it.

"It's exactly what 120hz and 240hz LCD is to smooth motion on LCD TVs. LCD doesn't go that high because there is too much lag in LCD, I don't think it's capable of such high frame rates.

What the TV is doing is taking the frames of souce material and mathimatically creating additional fields to insert between the real or actual fields to smooth motion and make it sharper.

The new 600hz plasmas from Panasonic are the only TVs that can actually show 1080 lines of resolution not just for static images like photos, but for moving images or motion resolution. Something that LCD TVs cannot do regardless of price or brand.

You have a really good TV, take the time to dial in the picture. You might find some settings at the AVS forums. And use the best connections (HDMI) and get some real high definition material, the picture should be really good."

- Source: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...06202604AAqjUvL

"Is 600 hz better quility than 120hz?

I would say yes mainly because of the higher frame rate. I have never seen a 600 Hz TV so I could not say for sure.

Not true. the 600Hz has nothing to do with the actual refresh rate it has to do with what they call sub field motion.

A standard video signal is actually a series of still images, flashed on screen so quickly that we believe we are watching a moving image. The typical frame rate used in North America is 60 frames per second (60Hz) meaning that a TV would display 60 individual still images every second. Sub-field drive is the method used to flash the individual image elements (dots) on a plasma panel. For each frame displayed on the TV the Sub-field drive flashes the dots 10 times or more, meaning that the dots are flashing 600 times per second (600Hz) or more. (Example: 60 frames per second x 10 sub-fields = 600 flashes per second)."

Plasma no need those "motion engine" thing lah. The pixel itself is so fast that LCD would never catch up lah.

Did everyone here notice that FULL HD LCD TV tend to have "WAX" like image when playback SD / HD(720P) movie contents.
Why the "WAX" like effect don't appear to my FULL HD LCD computer Monitor?? It is not that obvious when browsing wallpaper image and photo?

Will high end model have this problem (RM3500 above for 40' model)??

Thanks.

WAX.. nice term! biggrin.gif

that's the sucky effect of CCFL backlight.. biggrin.gif the backlight bleeding thro the panel.. so when you display a black image on the TV, and you switch off all the lights in your room, the TV still shines brightly in the room.... biggrin.gif
LEDs and local dimming LEDs in certain LCD TVs lessen this problem...

Buy samsung la if you want to experience this -

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...49839&sec=focus

I BOUGHT a new Samsung Plasma 42-inch TV from E.S.H. (M) Sdn Bhd in SS 2/24 on Dec 3 with full payment.

The TV set was delivered to my house the following day at 5pm and tested fine.

On Dec 10, after only six days of use, the new TV set did not produce any image but the audio (sound) was alright. I called the dealer who advised me to report it to Samsung directly.

On Dec 12, I called Samsung Careline at 9am to lodge my complaint. I was given the report No. 2000847115 and was told that a Samsung technician would be dispatched to my house to check on it.

On Dec 14, I called the careline again, and was told that the technician would be coming. But no one came. The next day I called again. Still the answer was that the technician would come. Nobody turned up or even called me.

On Dec 16, I called again at 9.30am to inquire about my report and was told to wait until 3pm and to call if no one turned up.

At 3.45pm, I called, this time feeling annoyed and angry. I told the Careline staff that my family had anticipated watching the Sea Games Football Finals between Malaysia and Vietnam to be aired live on TV the next day, and urged them to do something immediately to enable us to watch the game.

Finally at 6.15pm, one technician came to inspect my TV. I was told that the parts needed to repair my television set would only be available the following week or maybe later.

I was very disappointed because:

1. The set that I bought is a brand new Samsung TV, which I thought was of a very high quality and standard. But now I have second thoughts about Samsung.

2. The response time taken to attend to my complaint was very bad.

3. The hopes of my family and friends who anticipated watching the finals of the Sea Games football match between Malaysia and Vietnam were shattered.

4. All Malaysians, including myself, my family and friends, waited anxiously for 20 years for the much-anticipated football finals. We wanted to watch the historic event with the greatest enthusiasm, but Samsung’s lackadaisical attitude and very bad management have ruined our mood and destroyed our spirits.

5. I am now in the process of talking to our lawyers and contemplating legal action against Samsung.

ANGRY CUSTOMER,
Petaling Jaya.
